WE SAY
Ross Jack is an acclaimed artist in his native South Africa and there’s plenty here on offer that shows how his appeal could soon be reaching far beyond his home country. Back there, he’s a renowned producer for acts including Toya Delazy, HHP, Chiano Sky and Khuli Chana. This track come from his debut album Self Medicated, a collection that’s showcased him as a performer in his own right and has already topped the SA charts, thanks to its blend of dark and atmospheric songs wrapped up in cool hip-hop beats and indigenous sounds. This song features Arrow Benjamin, the co-writer and artist on Naughty Boy’s 2015 Top 10 smash Runnin (Lose It All) which also featured Beyonce. Production comes from Pete Boxsta, noted for his work with Petite Mellor and James Arthur, and there’s been online support from UK hip-hop blogs and music sites including Contact Music, FAME magazine and VENTS. Describing his sound as stoner pop and electric soul, we love the whole woozy, languid feel to this. And it grows and grows with every play.
