Modest Mouse
Float On

Epic

WE SAY

Modest Mouse, who formed in 1993, have broken America! Not 'broken' in a Flaming Lips/Bright Eyes/ Interpol-type way, off the mainstream radar - they'd already done that. 'Broken' as in their new album is sitting happily at 21 after ten weeks in the chart. And, impressively, they've done it on the newly-hot Epic, a label not previously known for its indie bands (although that could be changing as they're also breaking Franz Ferdinand in America). The reasons were examined on our messageboard and in our magazine recently but two of them are a retail price of $10 or under (increasingly a key tool in breaking acts) and this excellent single. Now it's the UK's turn.
