KEEP IT UP
Mishaal Tamer
Arabian Knights Records/EMPIRE
WE SAY
Half-Saudi, half-Ecuadorian rising pop star Mishaal Tamer is next up among our artists to watch at the Great Escape festival later this week. He may be familiar to some of you as we named him one of RotD’s Ones To Watch 2024 at the start of the year. His brand of pop alt-rock with simple, catchy melodies first broke onto the global scene back in 2020 when his demo EP, ‘Life’s A Ride’, made a buzz in the US and saw him become the first Saudi artist to sign to a major label in the US. Now with over 500m combined streams, 1.6m monthly Spotify listeners and 590k followers on TikTok, Mishaal is building up to the release of his debut album, ‘HOME IS CHANGING’, later this autumn and his first UK shows with this upbeat banger. Released on independent label Arabian Knights Records (named after the first video he ever shot for ‘Arabian Knights’)/EMPIRE at the start of the month, ‘KEEP IT UP’ is Mishaal’s promise to himself to never be a broken hearted fool again. Co-written with Greg Recchia and Mike Guerriero and co-produced with Andrew Wells, the track, an infectious indie leaning number, is a joyful hit and has already caught the attention of Apple Music with playlist additions. Previous tastemaker support has come from Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, Billboard, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, to name just a few. This Thursday, he will make his first UK performance at Komedia at 21.15 for the Great Escape Festival and then make his London debut with a headline show at Camden Assembly the following day.
