Back To The 70s
WE SAY
London-based genre-hopping punks Home Counties have been creating quite a stir over the last 18 months with their raucous brand of politically-charged tunes. Back in late 2020, the art-punk quintet dropped their debut EP Redevelopment and have since built a loyal following with shows with shame, Sports Team and Pip Blom. Loud & Quiet, NME, So Young Magazine, the Line of Best Fit, DIY Magazine, Dork and Clash are among the band’s many admirers while the singles have clocked up consistent airplay from Radio 1 (Jack Saunders) and 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Amy Lame & Tom Robinson). Last week, they returned with the new self-produced EP In A Middle English Town, which blurs the lines of art-punk, guitar-pop and danceable post-punk in thrilling fashion, taking the cues from Talking Heads, Devo and Gang of Four. This urgent and wry explosion of ramshackle guitars, manic synths and strangely hummable melodies is just brilliant, and if you haven’t heard them before, we urge you to check them out.
