WE SAY

Correct us if we're wrong, but we don't believe a specialist label has ever had the presence in the Christmas album chart that Universal Classics & Jazz are enjoying right now. They've worked out how to break classical artists in to the mainstream, and have gone for it full throttle. As a result, classical and jazz are enjoying profile and sales like never before, yet the rest of the music industry barely seems to have noticed. Here's our attempt to correct that: a week of Records of the Day from Universal Classics & Jazz, all picked on merit. First up is the most exciting of all UCJ's prospects, New Zealand teenager Hayley Westenra. Thanks to 'Wim' who recommended this track on our message board - it's the best showcase for Hayley's jaw-dropping voice (although Never Say Goodbye is the melody you'll recognise from the TV ad).
