Wise Owl Films, Lime Pictures’ non-scripted, Leeds-based label, has landed a re-commission of Sky Arts music documentary series, Guy Garvey: From The Vaults. The Elbow frontman will return for a second series with a curated five hours of his favourite artistes and songs from the Seventies and Eighties. Sky Arts is now free for everyone to watch on Freeview Channel 11.

Guy Garvey: From The Vaults will once again set out to unearth rare concert and studio performances and revealing interviews that have remained hidden for decades from ITV shows such as Central TV’s Revolver, Border TV’s Bliss and Tyne Tees Television’s The Tube. The series will chronicle not just changing musical tastes but the evolution in the UK’s social and cultural history too.

This second series will feature the musical sights and sounds of 1978, 1980, 1983, 1985 and 1987, featuring emerging musical genres including the British Ska Revival, Britfunk, gothic rock and the political pop sounds of the early 80s. With each episode concentrating on a different 12 months in rock history, Guy Garvey gives his personal take on the tracks from that year, as we hear about the songs and artistes from across many musical genres who have inspired his own song-writing career.

Guy Garvey said: “This is one of the best jobs I’ve ever had – it’s like scurrying through my childhood. I thought I had dreamt the interview with Elvis Costello talking about producing The Specials but no, there it was. Another series of me sat on top of an overflowing treasure chest going: ‘And look at this one!’.”

Guy Garvey: From The Vaults is a 5 x 60 minute series that will air on Sky Arts this Summer. It has been commissioned by Phil Edgar Jones for Sky Arts and produced by Kerry Allison and Rick Goodwin for Wise Owl Films. The Commissioning Editor for Sky is Barbara Lee.
