SINGLES
Messy by Lola Young is officially the UK’s biggest song of 2025 so far.

Racking up 597,000 chart units in the first quarter of 2025 alone (and 775,000 in total since release), the ADHD anthem has enjoyed a massive rise since its release back in June 2024.

It hit the Top 10 for the first time on the Official Christmas Chart in December, defying the odds as one of the biggest non-Christmas songs to earn its place in the biggest Top 10 of the year. In 2025, it quickly flew up the upper echelons and up to Number 1, where it stayed for four consecutive weeks.

Very close behind at Number 2 is ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ pop-punk party starter APT., which is sitting on 564,000 chart units over the opening months of the year. APT. is also the most-streamed track of 2025 so far (71.58m streams). Bruno Mars impressively also banked a second placement in the year-to-date Top 5 too with Lady Gaga team-up Die With A Smile at Number 4. Gaga herself also earns another place in the Top 40 at Number 27 with dark-pop banger Abracadabra.

Filling out the Top 5 is Gracie Abrams’ chart-topping That’s So True (3), on 512k, and The Days by Bolton-based singer, songwriter and producer Chrystal (5), with 375k chart units in 2025 so far.

Chappell Roan claims two of the UK’s Top 10 songs of the year so far with Good Luck, Babe! (7) and recent Number 1 Pink Pony Club (9). Further down, HOT TO GO! parties hard as Chappell’s third Top 40 placing (31).

A number of artists see several entries inside the Top 40 for 2025 so far; Teddy Swims (three), Sabrina Carpenter (four), Myles Smith (two), Billie Eilish (two) and Kendrick Lamar (three). Lamar’s trio includes former Number 1 Not Like Us (14), plus two collaborations with SZA; Luther (25) and All the Stars (35).

Reigning UK Number 1 hit Ordinary by Alex Warren (17) proves its mettle, landing a place in the chart just eight weeks after its release, and Alex isn’t done there – 2024 track Carry You Home squeezes into the Top 40 too (39).

Tate McRae rides into the year-to-date Top 40 with the slinky Sports car (28), closely followed by woman of the moment Doechii with showstopping debut Top 10 single DENIAL IS A RIVER (32).

Finally, more big players on 2025’s Official Singles Chart to date come from Sam Fender with People Watching (33) and WHO by K-pop superstar Jimin (36).

ALBUMS
Sabrina Carpenter's impact on the Official Albums Chart is anything but Short N’ Sweet as she claims the Number 1 album of 2025 so far.

Racking up 196,000 chart units this year alone (with an all-time total of 569,000 since its release last summer), Sabrina’s sixth studio album storms ahead of the competition. Having spent four weeks in total at Number 1 in the UK – including two this year – it’s a strong start for the album, which finished as the third biggest album of 2024.

At Number 2 is the biggest album released in 2025 and the biggest album of the year so far by a British act, People Watching by Sam Fender, with 142,400 chart units. Fender’s third studio album broke records upon its release in February, becoming the fastest-selling vinyl album by a British act this century, boasting sales of 43,000 on the format in its first week. It’s the biggest seller overall and the biggest physical release of the year to date, with over 100,000 copies sold across all physical formats.

At Number 3 is Ed Sheeran’s +–=÷× (Tour Collection), with SZA’s 2022 album SOS at Number 4, bolstered by the release of its deluxe, expanded edition Lana, in two parts at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

Chappell Roan’s 2023 debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which finally hit Number 1 in August 2024 (and again in January this year), lands at Number 5, closely followed by Central Cee’s debut studio album (and second UK chart-topper) CAN’T RUSH GREATNESS at Number 6.

After finally hitting Number 1 for the first time in January, more than seven years after its release, it’s no surprise to see Elton John’s Diamonds greatest hits collection earn a place in the year-to-date Top 10 at Number 8. Diamonds finally hit Number 1 following the release of new limited-edition releases across brand-new formats, including cassette and a sparkling diamond-effect vinyl.

Just outside the Top 10 is Lady Gaga’s latest Number 1 collection, MAYHEM (11) which manages this impressive feat just three weeks after its release.

The Weeknd’s ‘final’ album Hurry Up Tomorrow comes in at Number 15, finishing slightly ahead of Tate McRae’s third studio album So Close to What (16) and Kendrick Lamar’s headline-grabbing sixth album and first Number 1 in the UK, GNX (17).

Robbie Williams’ chart-topping Better Man OST comes in at 26, while the final new release to earn a place in the year-to-date Top 40 is PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake’s collaborative album Some Sexy Songs 4 U at Number 28.
