BRITs 2022 NOMINATIONS TO BE EXCLUSIVELY ANNOUNCED IN PRIMETIME ITV SLOT
PERFORMANCES FROM ANNE-MARIE, JOEL CORRY & MABEL, GLASS ANIMALS & MIMI WEBB
The BRIT Awards 2022 with Mastercard today announce details of 'The BRITs Are Coming' TV special which will air from 5pm GMTSaturday 18th December.
The one-hour show will be hosted by acclaimed broadcasters Clara Amfo and Maya Jama, who will exclusively reveal the much anticipated nominations for the 2022 BRIT Awards, reflecting on yet another incredible year for British and international music. There will be a total of 13 awards given out in the show this year, including four new genre-based awards, and, for the first time ever, an International Song of the Year category to recognise the biggest songs from global artists of the past year.
Alongside the reveal of shortlists for categories including the highly coveted Mastercard Album of the Year, the show will feature exclusive performances by some of the UK's most exciting music acts: Anne-Marie, Joel Corry & Mabel, Glass Animals and Mimi Webb.
Clara said: "It is such an honour and pleasure to be part of The BRITs presenting team for 2022. The spirit of celebration from the artists to the viewers is really special and I'm so excited for everyone to see more memories being made on the red carpet and stage in February!"
Maya said:"I am so excited to be back on presenting duties for the BRITs 2022! I remember watching the show growing up and still can't quite believe I get to be a part of it. 'The BRITs Are Coming' TV special on ITV has always been one of my favourite shows, it's such a big celebration, everyone is on top form and I love seeing so many of my favourite people within the music industry come together for such an incredible night."
Multi-platinum selling artist Anne-Marie is no stranger to the BRITs, having been nominated nine times previously. 2021 has seen Anne-Marie make her primetime debut as a new judge on ITV's The Voice UK, as well as releasing her much-anticipated and critically acclaimed second studio album Therapy which peaked at No.2 on the Official Album Chart. With six Top Ten singles under her belt, she is set to go back out on the road in May 2022 for a headline arena tour including one night at London's Wembley Arena.
Joel Corry is a multi-BRIT Award nominated DJ/producer and Kiss FM resident. His breakthrough came in 2019 with the platinum-selling single 'Sorry', which spent 10 weeks in the UK Top 10 and peaked at #6. He followed it up with the Platinum hit single 'Lonely' and Double-Platinum 'Head & Heart' featuring MNEK, which not only scored Joel his first ever UK No.1 but was also named the longest-running consecutive No.1 record of 2020. This year has seen Joel collaborate with the likes of RAYE and David Guetta on UK #3 single, 'BED', as well as earning 3x nominations at the BRIT Awards 2021. This summer, Joel played to sold-out crowds during his weekly residency in Ibiza, as well as a slew of UK festivals and his first ever US Tour. He also released further hit singles including 'OUT OUT' with Jax Jones featuring Charli XCX and Saweetie, and new single, 'I Wish' featuring Mabel.
A candid, positive and important voice in contemporary pop, Mabel's 2019 debut album High Expectations became the biggest selling debut by a British female artist that year, boasting over 4 billion streams and 2.2 million adjusted album sales, earning her four nominationsat the BRITs 2020 at which she won 'Best Female Solo Artist' and performed on both the main show, along with that year's BRITs Are Coming nominations show. This year, Mabel is completing work on her follow-up album and released the first single 'Let Them Know' in June, which became a UK top 20 hit. She also made her long-awaited return to the live arena this summer where she graced the main stages of Reading & Leeds and Mighty Hoopla, and teamed up with Joel Corry in October 2021 for his latest hit 'I Wish', as well as performing a cover of Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time', to soundtrack McDonald's Christmas ad campaign.
Formed in Oxford in 2010, Glass Animals are a British electro pop band consisting of Dave Bayley, Drew MacFarlane, Edmund Irwin-Singer and Joe Seaward. These childhood friends have gone onto release three acclaimed studio albums, including their highly successful 2020 album Dreamland which peaked at No.2 on the Official Album Chart and No.7 on the Billboard 200. Their 2020 platinum-selling hit 'Heat Waves' captured the global mood and charted at No.5 in the UK Singles Chart, with 1 Billion streams and became the UK's biggest exported song of the year from a contemporary band. Throughout 2020 and 2021, the band collaborated with three of the UK's hottest rising stars including Arlo Parks, Bree Runway and Holly Humberstone. The band have just come off their biggest ever USA tour which sold 135,000 tickets in just three days, and headlined Alexandra Palace this month to critical acclaim. The tour continues through December 2021, with more further dates next year.
Hailing from Canterbury, the pop singer-songwriter Mimi Webb has taken the world by storm. Inspired by the likes of BRIT alumni Amy Winehouse, Emelie Sandé and Sam Smith, Mimi started writing songs of her own at just 13 years old and enrolled at BIMM Brighton. In 2019 she inked a deal with Epic/RCA and later that year, an impromptu acapella performance exploded online with over 20 million views on TikTok. Amassing over 200 million streams, she made waves with international hits 'Good Without' and 'Dumb Love', with the singles concurrently capturing places in the Top 15 on the UK Singles Chart, cementing Mimi as the first UK female artist since Dua Lipa to land two singles in the UK Top 15 before the release of her debut album. October 2021 saw Mimi release her Top 10 debut EP 'Seven Shades of Heartbreak', followed by a sold out UK tour, further cementing her place in pop music as a future rising star.
