The BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard reveals another winner ahead of main show this coming Saturday 28 Feb 2024
RAYE announced as recipient of BRITs Songwriter of the Year award - after breaking BRITs record as most nominated artist in any one year
With only days to go until the biggest night in UK music, The BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard today reveal another winner, following the announcement earlier this week of Chase & Status as this year's Producer of the Year award winners.
RAYE - who broke the BRITs record for the highest number of nominations by a single artist in any one year, with an incredible 7 nominations this year in categories including Artist of the Year and Mastercard Album of the Year - is the recipient of this year's Songwriter of the Year award. This prestigious prize, introduced in 2022, celebrates exceptional songwriting talent and was decided upon by a select panel of expert judges. Previous winners are Ed Sheeran and Kid Harpoon. RAYE will also perform on this year's BRITs, along with Becky Hill X Chase & Status, Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa, Jungle, Kylie Minogue, Rema and Tate McRae.
RAYE commented: "I am so so honoured and blown away, honestly to be given this prestigious award for Songwriter of the Year, it is my very first BRIT award and I will treasure this trophy very much. I am so grateful to be recognised as a songwriter as this is a craft I am so passionate about and have been since I started my journey as a musician, and I'm very grateful to those who voted for me to have this award."
Damian Christian, Managing Director and President of Promotions at Atlantic Records (part of Warner Music UK) and Chair of the BRIT Committee for 2024 added: "After receiving a record-breaking seven nominations, I'm delighted that RAYE has also been named Songwriter of the Year. RAYE has been such a prominent and respected songwriter for many years, so it's great to see her getting the recognition she deserves on the biggest stage. I'd like to congratulate her on this win and wish her all the best for Saturday night."
BRIT School graduate RAYE has been on a real journey prior to her stratospheric rise to the top and notching the first #1 UK hit of 2023. Her long-awaited independent debut album, My 21st Century Blues, made an immediate impact hitting the #2 spot on the UK albums chart, and featured the chart topping, viral global smash "Escapism" featuring 070 Shake – the biggest selling single by a Female British artist in the UK in 2023. From the radio to the club, it put RAYE on the map in a whole new way earning the Best Contemporary Song Award at the 2023 Ivors, AIM Best Independent Track and Best Social Trending Song at the Global Awards, as well as contributing to her winning a BRIT Billion Award in recognition of 1 Billion career UK streams (globally, 4.5 Billion cumulative).
This year's BRITs is shaping up to be yet another exciting and entertaining night celebrating the great and the good of British and international music, with a stellar line-up of homegrown and global talent set to take to the BRITs stage to perform; fans will get to see Becky Hill X Chase & Status, Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding, Dua Lipa, Jungle, Kylie Minogue - who will be honoured as BRITs Global Icon, RAYE, Rema and Tate McRae.
Winners of award categories including Mastercard Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year with Mastercard and International Artist of the Year - as well as the five public -voted genre awards Alternative/Rock, Dance, Hip Hop/Grime/Rap, Pop and R&B will be revealed, with each winner collecting a trophy designed by the British visual artist and painter Rachel Jones.
Along with RAYE and Chase & Status, The BRITs have revealed the winners of two more awards in advance of this year's show. Announced last year, the winners of this year's BRITs Rising Star award are The Last Dinner Party, and as confirmed earlier this month, Kylie Minogue will be presented with the BRITs Global Icon award on the night.
The BRIT Awards 2024 with Mastercard will take place on Saturday 2nd March - once again in a primetime weekend slot - broadcast live from 8.30pm on ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player - from The O2 arena, hosted by Clara Amfo, Maya Jama and Roman Kemp. Yinka Bokinni and Jack Saunders will be presenting The BRITs' Red Carpet for ITV2 and The BRITs' Aftershow for ITVX.
Mastercard returns as headline partner of The BRIT Awards for the 26th year, bringing cardholders closer to their passion for music through a range of BRITs experiences. Mastercard continues to partner with the BRIT School to support and celebrate the next generation of creative talent.
