Friday 19th May 2017 is a key date in the music industry. Not only will The Great Escape Festival in Brighton be in full swing with its annual new music showcases, the conference alongside will be focusing on Music Export – aptly themed The Export Conference.
To highlight the significance of the event, music industry market development specialists Sound Diplomacy will unveil a new 15-page Music Export Pledge.
The pledge goes out to local governments and councils to highlight the need for a Music Export Office in every country with thriving Music Cities (see more on the Music Cities Events Series - http://www.musiccitiesevents.com/) to focus on building strong bridges to expose the benefits of the music industry to a city’s culture and economy.
The pledge outlines the benefits of music export to governments around the world. They outline how a Music Export Office should operate, the benefit to the economy, the development of music talent and the support to the industry to help with key decision making when dealing with international networks.
Key Research:
· Music Export Offices develop talent, foster relationships across borders, develop skills and communicate with their government to increase access to enhance, transparency and public support of music.
· To create more trade, more cultural capital and a greater economy for its music, whatever the style, output or genre to support and further develop our global music industries.
· A ‘music export initiative’ or ‘music export office’ first works for the industry. That is important. It is the industry that is the customer, and key beneficiary.
· The best music export initiatives have the tools, knowledge and resources to provide platforms for artists and their representatives to make the best decisions when approaching international networks.
Sound Diplomacy are quoted:
‘We want every country in the world to have a thriving, active music export initiative. It doesn’t matter how it is set up. It matters how its functions impact the artists it serves. Talent is everywhere, and great talent deserves the best support. Only some countries and regions have music export initiatives; those that do are very lucky, because the business leaders running them are providing opportunities for artists across the sector, every day. So let’s learn from each other, work together and make music export an integral aspect of national, regional and local cultural policy.’
