Sony Music Entertainment and Sony/ATV Music Publishing open doors to new German and European headquarters in Berlin 06 Oct 2020
- Seven-storey, 8,000 m² space will be home to Sony Music Group employees, including those from Sony/ATV Music Publishing and the classical music division.
- New site will support thousands of German and international artists and songwriters through new recording studio and state-of-the art music rooms to record and play new tracks.
- Sony Music Entertainment is actively hiring in the capital, with jobs spanning from A&R management, to marketing to operational functions.
Sony Music Entertainment and Sony/ATV Music Publishing today announced the opening of its new offices and European headquarter in Berlin, Germany. The site provides 8,000 square meters of office space for Sony Music employees and consists of a seven-story building, the interior was designed by Berghain architects Karhard, in Berlin-Schöneberg. With the move the company aims to work closely with its artists and songwriters and widen its roster, as well as deepen partnerships, and to expand access to influential creative subcultures and leading cultural, digital innovators and policy makers.
“Once again, Sony Music's decision proves that Berlin has worldwide appeal as a cultural, lively and international center. Sony Music is diverse and creative, which fits in well with our colorful music metropolis,” says Michael Müller, Governing Mayor of Berlin.
Building A Key Creative Power Hub In Europe
The new headquarters are located in Bülowstrasse 80 in Berlin-Schöneberg, a district once home to David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich and an area which actively shaped Berlin’s buzzing music and clubbing scene in the 1980’s and 1990’s. With a roster of renowned artists spanning Roland Kaiser, Andrea Berg, Clueso, to international stars such as Bob Dylan, Camila Cabello, Harry Styles to chart breaker Apache 207, RIN or Mark Forster, now managed in Berlin, Sony Music is also further strengthening Berlin's position as the music capital of Europe.
“I am very excited to start a new chapter in Sony Music’s story within the vibrant city of Berlin, one of Europe’s key creative power hubs,” said Daniel Lieberberg, President, Continental Europe & Africa, Sony Music. “I am particularly pleased that we are bringing under one roof Sony Music Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the music publishing and international classical music entities, as well as our international team, which is responsible for the region Continental Europe and Africa. We are committed to further empowering and supporting our artists fueled by a strong and dynamic team and an incredibly modern and inspiring new infrastructure.”
Sony Music will contribute to job growth in Berlin, covering a range of roles including artist and repertoire management, marketing and operational functions.
Supporting The Berlin Music Scene and Economy
The new Sony Music headquarters consist of a newly built complex close to Nollendorfplatz and just a neighborhood away from the Sony Center near Potsdamer Platz. The design of the spaces creates a striking expression of the company’s identity which assumes a fluid, futuristic and transparent presence similar to that of the city of Berlin. The office will be equipped with a recording studio and state-of-the art music rooms to record and play new tracks.
“This wonderful building symbolizes the demand we want to meet: to give space to the creativity of our growing number of employees, partners and last but not least our artists,” said Patrick Mushatsi-Kareba, CEO, Sony Music Germany, Austria, Switzerland. “With our new location we also want to give our domestic roster even more international exposure, with the support of the international marketing team of the region, while also enabling young talents and creatives to benefit from our worldclass expertise and infrastructure in this exciting environment.”
Regular panels and workshops will be given for external partners, music aficionados and young talents to learn more about the role of a modern music label.
"We very much look forward to expanding our synergy possibilities with Sony Music. At the same time, we will continue to deliver the best creative and administrative service to our local and international songwriters and publishing partners in these exciting new premises at Bülowstraße", said Patrick Strauch, MD Sony/ATV Music Publishing Germany.
“One year ago we celebrated the topping-out ceremony together, and now the move-in: Welcome! This is great news for Berlin and confirms the strong confidence of international companies in our business location," added Ramona Pop, Deputy Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economics, Energy and Business. "With its creative music scene and multi-faceted club culture, Berlin has established itself as the music capital and is therefore exactly the right place to be: We are looking forward to working with Sony Music!”
The Germany and European headquarters of Sony Music were previously based in Munich.
