SACEM Honours Music Creators at its 2018 Grands Prix Awards 11 Dec 2018
SACEM, the Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music last night honoured outstanding musicians, composers and writers during their annual Grands Prix SACEM awards in Paris.
Since its creation, the Grands Prix awards recognise SACEM members for their contribution to the music industry and their achievement across a range of categories and genres. Every year, winners of the prestigious awards include both those who have devoted a lifetime to music and exciting new talent just starting out.
In 2018, winners include Ed Sheeran for International Best Song of the Year, which was awarded to the single “Shape of You”, written and composed in collaboration with Steve Mac and Johnny McDaid.
The Grand Prix for the Promotion of the SACEM Repertoire went to Imany, a French pop-soul recording artist, whose 2011 debut album reached platinum status in France, Greece, and Poland. Michel Gondry, best known for directing the film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and music videos for Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Radiohead and Björk, took home the Grand Prix for best Director of Audio-Visual Content.
The annual awards also celebrated the international diversity of SACEM, with Tobagan music legend Calypso Rose awarded the Grand Prix for World Music.
