Offers Annual Scholarship for Music Industry course via Notting Hill Academy Of Music
Twenty-one seconds can be a long time in pop history, as any So Solid Crew MC will tell you, but twenty-one years?
30 November 2020 - today we are celebrating 21 years of Relentless Records – the independent London-based record label that changed the face of British music. The date coincides with Relentless Records’ debut release in 1999, Artful Dodger’s ‘Re-Rewind’, where it all started for the label that helped bring UK garage into the spotlight.
To celebrate. Relentless will recommit to their legacy of providing routes into the music industry to those who might not get the chance - by funding a scholarship to study for music industry qualifications.
For over two decades, Relentless has propelled homegrown British talent, taking them from the underground scene to mainstream prominence.
The label’s diverse range of greatest hits include So Solid Crew’s ’21 Seconds’, Daniel Bedingfield ‘Gotta Get Thru This’, DJ Pied Piper and the Masters of Ceremonies’ ‘Do You Really Like It?’, KT Tunstall’s ‘Suddenly I See’, Lethal Bizzle’s ‘Pow’, and more recently, Headie One’s ‘Ain’t It Different’.
And the label has also helped many enter a career in the music industry.
Relentless partners with the legendary West London independent music venue Notting Hill Arts Club that has hosted countless global stars such as Ed Sheeran, The Libertines, Lily Allen, Mark Ronson and more. Crucially, for many of these artists, their performance came at the start of their career, highlighting the venue's longstanding commitment to championing new talent.
By day, the venue is a classroom for the Notting Hill Academy Of Music - a music business school that offers vocational courses to get young people in the door of the music industry. It has been a huge success with many alumni now working in their dream jobs, such as Rob Ukaegbu who signed Headie One to Relentless Records, Josephine Atie at Sony ATV, Dan Owusu, label boss at Dream Life Records and David Sonubi, who alongside his brother, Jojo, founded No Signal radio station.
Label founder Shabs Jobanputra said: “We have always searched for UK subcultures, bringing those music scenes to mainstream attention, from UK Garage to Drill. But we have also promoted new generations of music industry executives that drive that change. We couldn’t think of a better way of celebrating 21 Years of Relentless than committing to help more people, who are passionate about what we love to do.”
“I wanted to be in a learning environment with genuine music people who have careers currently in the music,” says Rob Ukaegbu of his time at the Academy, “For this reason, I think it is one of the most unique music courses around, as the lecturers are all a part of the music business in some form.”

Entrants will be asked to submit a 1500 word essay on why they want to do the course and work in the music industry.
Relentless will provide a fully paid scholarship each year for a new student
The course begins in February and lasts 9 months
