MTV Honours The Most Played Videos Of 2010 04 Feb 2011
MTV Networks International today announced the winners of the 2010 MTV Video Play Awards, with Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” earning top billing as the most played music video on MTV channels around the world, with over 20,000 plays.
The top 52 videos were aired over 610,000 times across 58 MTV channels around the world (excluding all MTV US channels) over the course of 2010. Thirty-four videos gained Platinum status with over 10,000 plays each, while seventeen further videos gained Gold status with more than 5000 plays.
Lady Gaga scored a hat trick of Platinum awards for “Bad Romance”, “Telephone” and “Alejandro”. Black Eyed Peas picked up two Platinum awards for their huge dance hits “Meet Me Halfway” and “Rock That Body”, as did David Guetta for “Memories” and “Gettin Over You” featuring Fergie. Katy Perry also nabbed two Platinum awards for her top summer tunes “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls”.
B.o.B and Ke$ha both made the top 10 Platinum list with “Airplanes” and “Tik Tok” respectively, both giving spectacular live performances of these huge hits at the 2010 MTV EMA in Madrid. Justin Beiber won his first MTV Video Play Award going straight in at Platinum for “Baby”, as did Cheryl Cole with “Fight For This Love”.
Bruce Gillmer, Executive Vice President Music and Talent/Programming, Events, MTV Networks International commented: “The MTV Video Play Awards 2010 results demonstrate MTV’s commitment to providing the best and latest music videos to our fans around the world, as well as our unique ability to support acts on a global scale.”
Not only was Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna the fourth most played music video of 2010, it also claims the title of top streamed music video on MTV’s 40 global websites (excluding all MTV US websites). The list also includes videos from Rihanna, as well as Katy Perry and Shakira, clearly demonstrating that MTV remains at the forefront of new digital music platforms, connecting fans with the music they want on the platforms they want.
The MTV Video Play Awards emphasise MTV’s commitment to supporting new acts, championing up and coming artists and launching them around the world. Fourteen of the 52 winning videos were new acts, eight of which are PUSH artists, MTV’s global campaign that promotes the hottest new talent to audiences across all platforms. The eight PUSH artists who won Platinum and Gold Video Play awards are B.o.B, Ke$ha, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Jason Derulo, Mike Posner, Alexandra Burke and Selena Gomez & The Scene.
About MTV’s Platinum and Gold Video Play Awards
The innovative awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate the most played music videos across the global MTV network. To create the awards, 58 MTV music channels from around the world provided data on their most played music videos from the period 1st January to 31st December 2010. Videos played more than 5000 times received a Gold award, those played over 10,000 times received a Platinum award and 20,000 plays resulted in a Double Platinum Award.
