In Place of War Announces Global Music Industry Advisory Board: Midem, Native Instruments & Roland Represented 26 Nov 2020
In Place of War, the organisation that uses creativity to effect positive change in 26 areas of conflict around the world, today unveils its newly appointed Global Music Industry Advisory Board.
Over 16 years, the charity has enabled a network of 100 grassroots change-makers in music, theatre and across the arts, to transform a culture of violence and suffering into hope, opportunity and freedom. This positive and sometimes life-saving change is delivered via the provision of cultural spaces, education and entrepreneurship training, and artistic collaboration.
With well-established relationships within the music industry, spanning Run The Jewels, appointed Fellows of the charity earlier this year, to collaborations with industry names including
The Association of Electronic Music, Ear To The Ground, Greenbelt Festival, LCD Soundsystem, Native Instruments, Ninja Tune, Pioneer DJ and Ronnie Scott’s, music organisations are natural partners to In Place of War.
CEO and Creative Director, Ruth Daniel, explains the thinking behind the formation of the Global Music Industry Advisory Board, “We recognise the power of collaborating with the music industry from the incredible success of our existing partnerships. In response to the pandemic, working with organisations like Beatport, Insomniac Events and Shambala, we raised £150k for our COVID Emergency Fund via fundraising live streams, providing grants to the change-makers in our network with the most urgent need. We know that, through collaboration and solidarity, the difference we can make to music communities in places of conflict, has far more impact. One of the most powerful ways of doing this is by creating a worldwide movement of music industry professionals who care about and want to contribute to positive change. So we wanted to unite leaders of the international music industry in supporting the work of In Place of War.”

To date, the collaborative approach adopted by In Place of War has enabled the charity to
- Collect over £500,000 of equipment
- Establish three new music spaces in South Africa, Uganda and Palestine
- Bring together 30 women artists from conflict zones to collaborate and perform to over 1 million people across the world
- Mobilise profile artists globally to create new music with people in communities facing conflict
- Train over 1,000 people in its Creative and Social Entrepreneurial Programme, enabling 40% of participants to set up new creative businesses
- Support 100 change-makers in music across 26 countries
