Capital Bra signs new deal with Warner Chappell Music 01 Jun 2020
Capital Bra, the most successful charting artist of the 21stcentury in Germany with 21 No. 1 hits to his name, has signed a new worldwide publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music, the global publishing arm of Warner Music Group.
Capital Bra is one of the artists and songwriters who have helped define the Deutschrap sound, which has come to dominate the German charts in recent years. He is the most streamed artist in Germany, generating more than 1.4 billion streams. He recorded 10 No. 1 singles in 2019 alone and, this year, has landed a further two more No. 1 singles with ‘Baby’ and ‘Nicht verdient’.
Capital Bra says: “Deutschrap has gone from the underground to the mainstream in the last couple of years, and I’m proud to have played my part in making that happen. I love working with Natascha and the team at Chappell. They’re a great sounding board as I pull together new songs and have supported me in building my career.”
Natascha Augustin, Senior Creative Director, Warner Chappell Music Germany, adds: “Capital Bra is an amazing talent that has tapped into the zeitgeist with his songwriting ability and performance. He’s not afraid to tackle hard issues, on or off the stage, and has a real connection with his fans. He’s also a gifted writer who is building an incredible songbook that will stand the test of time.”
Capital Bra is the stage name of Russian-born Vladislav Balovatsky, who moved to Germany as a child and started rapping from the age of 11. He launched his career at Rap am Mittwoch, a leading battle rap tournament, and released his first studio album, Kuku Bra, in 2016.
His follow-up albums Makarov Complex and Blvat, both released in 2017, broke the Top 5 in Germany, while 2018’s Berlin Lebt went to No. 1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and became the most-streamed album of the year there on Apple Music and Spotify. The latter album contained ‘5 Songs In Einer Nacht’, which became Capital Bra’s first No. 1 single in Germany.
Capital Bra released his fifth album, Allein, later in 2018 and it went to No. 2 in the German charts. He also created his own YouTube channel, where he began to regularly upload free tracks for fans. Five of his music videos released in 2018 ranked in the top 10 most viewed videos of the year in Germany on YouTube.
His sixth studio album CB6 was the first to be released on his own label, Bra Music. His most recent album was Berlin Lebt 2, a collaboration with rapper Samra, which contained four No. 1 singles, and also topped the charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2019.
He is currently working on plans for a new Capital Bra album, CB7, which is set to be released later this year, as well as another album project that will be released under the stage name Joker Bra.
Warner Chappell Music is home to a number of leading Deutschrap songwriters, including 187 Strassenbande, Apache 207, Bausa, Bozza, Capo, Celo & Abdi, Farid Bang, Jamule, JuhDee, Juju, KMN Gang, Luciano Miksu & Macloud, Reezy, Stickle and Summer Cem. Its success in this area has helped it become the top publisher of domestic repertoire in Germany.
