Becky Hill, Jax Jones, Disclosure, RAYE, Carl Cox and more announced for BBC Radio 1’s Dance Weekend, joining the station’s mammoth 70 hour celebration of dance music 17 Jul 2020
The full line up for Radio 1’s Dance Weekend has been unveiled, with Becky Hill, Jax Jones, Disclosure, RAYE, Carl Cox and more set to perform for the event between 31 July - 2 August 2020.
Radio 1’s Dance Weekend will be saving the summer by bringing together some of the biggest names in dance music for a three-day celebration packed with over 70 hours of dance music on Radio 1. Fans can join the party across radio, TV, social media and online over what would have been Radio 1’s annual weekend in Ibiza.
Highlights of the event will include BBC Sounds transforming into the world’s biggest nightclub for one weekend only, plus an evening of brand new DJ sets on Friday 31 July from 7pm – 1am, with performances from Disclosure, Annie Mac, The Black Madonna, Pete Tong b2b Bonobo, Danny Howard and more. A special edition of Radio 1’s Dance Anthems on Saturday 1 August (3 – 7pm) will feature PAs from Becky Hill and RAYE alongside brand new mixes from the likes of Jax Jones and Duke Dumont, while on Sunday 2 August, The Heritage Orchestra & Jules Buckley will be reuniting to perform a stripped back piano medley of some much-loved dance classics.
In addition, the hugely popular Radio 1 Ibiza Prom from 2015 will be broadcast on TV for the first time on Friday 31 July (midnight, BBC Four). Recorded in the iconic Royal Albert Hall, the Ibiza Prom features Jules Buckley and the Heritage Orchestra, John Newman, Ella Eyre and more.
The full line up and Radio 1 schedule is:

Saturday 1 August
The party continues all day on Saturday, with all daytime Radio 1 shows playing out some of the biggest and best dance tracks from the UK and around the world. A special edition of Radio 1’s Dance Anthems (3 – 7pm) hosted by MistaJam will feature PAs from Becky Hill and RAYE plus brand new mixes from Duke Dumont, Gorgon City b2b Sonny Fodera, Jax Jones, MistaJam and MK.
From 7 – 9pm DJ Target will be in the mix with two hours of old school dance classics simulcast on Radio 1 and 1Xtra. From 1 – 3am listeners will be able to relive some of the best mixes from the archives on Radio 1’s Classic Essential Mix, followed by Danny Howard’s Club Mix (3 – 4am) and Radio 1’s Chillout Anthems (4 -5am).
Sunday 2 August
On Sunday, Radio 1’s Chillest Show will feature a brand new Ibiza Classics Unplugged Piano Session from The Heritage Orchestra & Jules Buckley, performing a stripped back medley of some much-loved dance classics, while Above & Beyond will curate a Sunset Chill Mix. Benji B will be continuing the chilled vibes from 9 – 11pm on Radio 1 with guest appearances from Otherline and Honey Dijon, followed by BBC Music Introducing Dance from 11pm – 1am, where host Jaguar will showcase some of the best emerging talent on the dance scene. The show will feature an At Home session from ABSOLUTE, and India Jordan will be in the mix with a set of tunes all selected from the BBC Music Introducing Uploader. Radio 1’s Residency will bring the event to a close from 1 – 3am.
Radio 1’s annual pilgrimage to Ibiza has long had dance fans coming together in the island’s clubs to celebrate the very best the genre has to offer. As the Coronavirus pandemic means it is not possible to broadcast from Ibiza this year, Radio 1 will be aiming to bring the inimitable island vibes to households in the UK and around the world with Radio 1’s Dance Weekend. As well as listening on Radio 1, fans can join the party by dropping into the world’s biggest nightclub on BBC Sounds at any time across the weekend. Each of the virtual club’s rooms will have its own area on BBC Sounds: the Essential Mix room, the Dance Anthems room, the Radio 1 Dance Room, the Wind Down room and the BBC Music Introducing Dance room.
Radio 1 will be hosting an outreach programme in the lead up to the Dance Weekend with a range of sessions designed to inspire, empower and educate young people with an interest in dance music. Running from Monday 27 – Friday 31 July via Radio 1’s Instagram page, Radio 1’s Dance Masterclasses will be presented by Radio 1 DJs MistaJam, Danny Howard and Charlie Hedges, and will offer budding DJs, producers and dance superfans a chance to hear from the experts and discover some valuable tricks of the trade. Sessions will cover The Art of the Warm Up DJ (Monday); The Art of the Mix (Tuesday); Black Culture & Dance Music (Wednesday); Behind The Decks (Thursday), an exploration of the role of dance producers; and Deconstructing a Dance Anthem (Friday).
