UK Music Calls On Industry To "Be Part Of The Change" When It Comes To Diversity

UK Music is calling on everyone in the music industry to “be part of the change” by taking part in its diversity survey before the deadline on Friday. (OCTOBER 6).

The umbrella body for the music business is working to drive change and boost diversity across all sections of the industry and is supported by a range of bodies and firms across the sector.

Its annual survey has already attracted an excellent response. But UK Music chief executive Michael Dugher urged everyone working in the industry to spare a couple of minutes to take the survey before the deadline this Friday afternoon.

Completing the survey helps UK Music track improvements and identify where further improvements and changes are needed.

UK Music’s inaugural survey last year collated data from almost 3,000 people from across both major and independent record labels, managers, publishers, producers, royalty-collection societies and the live music industry.

UK Music is already striving to address the issues with a range of proposals including encouraging companies to conduct unconscious bias training.

Commenting, UK Music chief executive Michael Dugher said: “We’ve already had a fantastic response.  But it is vital that as many people as possible complete our diversity survey to ensure it has the maximum impact.

“We cannot just hope for change without taking action to influence the outcomes we all want to see. I would urge everyone to be part of a positive change by making sure they take part in the diversity survey this week.”

“As an industry we need to be doing far more to reflect the audiences we seek to entertain.  There have been a host of improvements, but we can and should do more when it comes to diversity.”
