The Libertines and Lethal Bizzle to Perform At AIM Awards 2022

Cult British rockers The Libertines will be taking to The Roundhouse stage on 28th September, as the AIM Independent Music Awards returns for a star-studded, in-person event.

Fresh from their Wembley headline, their slot promises to be an intimate celebration of one of Britain’s best indie acts. Part of the garage rock revival, The Libertines have achieved a #1 album, multiple Top 20 charting singles and headlined British Summer Time and Reading and Leeds. 

Also set for 2022 is legendary rapper Lethal Bizzle, who will toast 20 years in the game by running through a slew of iconic tracks from across his career, including the irrepressible Top 20 self-released single ‘Rari Workout’, insanely catchy ‘Fester Skank’ and the monster grime track ‘Pow! (Forward)’, which despite being banned from clubs and radio, became, and remains to this day, one of British music’s most explosive anthems.  

Lethal Bizzle will also be receiving the Outstanding Contribution Award in association with Merlin, which recognises his impactful career pushing grime into the mainstream and celebrate his inspirational journey so far, 20 years at the forefront of grime and UK rap music, rising from an aspiring young artist to becoming part of the fabric of modern British culture. An incredible third performer is to be announced soon.

On hearing news of the Outstanding Contribution Award, Lethal Bizzle said: “It’s nice to get your flowers when you can still smell them.”

The Local Heroes category, in association with BBC Music Introducing, also makes its return, with an eclectic group of winners who have gone above and beyond for their community. These include Sheffield’s iconic grassroots venue The Leadmill, whose resilience throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns saw them host an array of virtual gigs and DJ sets to keep the local music scene alive. The team behind London's Vocal Girls are also recognised for their work championing emerging talent with a focus on supporting marginalised genders and creating a positive change in the industry. With Wild Paths Festival, Cumbria's 'Loud & Queer' host Melanie Baker and Northern Ireland's 'Glasgowbury' showrunner Stella Glasgow also highlighted, this year’s Local Heroes include a brilliant host of names all too deserving of celebration.  

Highlighting an impressive range of talent across differing stages of their careers, the AIM Awards continues to promote the outstanding talents within the independent music community.
