The 7th Annual Lovie Awards names Brian Eno, FKA Twigs, Vice Media, Deezer, among finalists

The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), the organisation founded to drive the creative, technical and professional progress of the Internet and evolving forms of interactive media, is today announcing the Finalists in the 7th Annual Lovie Awards.

The prestigious and unique pan-European Lovie Awards is the sister of the international Webby Awards, and honours online excellence across Websites, Online Advertising, Internet Video, Mobile Sites, Apps & Podcasts and Social.
Following the selection process by IADAS, public voting is now open for all 7th Annual Lovie Awards Finalists through 5th October at vote.lovieawards.eu

With entries this year from 33 countries, Finalists represent Europe’s most innovative websites, video content and apps, such as ProtonMail, The Economist Radio and Ubisoft, and some of the region’s smartest digital brands and celebrities like Christine and The Queens, British Vogue, Sir David Attenborough's Story of Life, Fnatic.com and LADbible.

This year, Finalists addressed complex social issues, including the global refugee crisis, homelessness, women’s rights, domestic abuse, child abuse and climate change, through powerful campaigns and projects like Searching for Syria (Google Brand Studio), Helping Heart (N=5), Help Tracks: Donating by Streaming Music (BBDO Group Germany GmbH) and Unicef.org.uk (Manifesto Digital).

As podcasts continue to dominate the digital landscape, this was The Lovies first year recognising work in Podcasts across several categories. Finalists include The Inquiry: What’s the Story of Aleppo? (BBC), The Rough Guide to Everywhere, The Guilty Feminist (Spontaneity Shop), The It’s Nice That Podcast and more.

This year also saw new categories for excellence across Internet Video for branded and non-branded work. Finalists include Beyond Beauty With Grace Neutral (VICE), The Most Precious Gift (Heimat), Walter & Alma (MARVELOUS), First Impressions (The Guardian), Brutal Cut (Weber Shandwick London), Making of Planet Earth II (Vox & BBC Worldwide) and The Netherlands Welcomes Trump in His Own Words (Human Factor).

Judges for The Lovie Awards, who are members of the European arm of IADAS, represent some of the region’s top innovators and thinkers. Members include musician Imogen Heap, actor and writer Stephen Fry, “Father of Wi-Fi” Vic Hayes, Marie-Louise Sadakane (Head of Consumer Marketing Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spotify), Efe Cakarel (Founder, MUBI.com), Mel Exon (CEO, The Sunshine Company), Yann LeCun (Director, Facebook AI Research), Corinne Vigreux (Co-Founder, TomTom) and Lauren Laverne (DJ & Presenter).

“This year’s Finalists show the continued promise of Europe as a connected society where our interactions and innovations help shape our daily lives and improve the world at large,” said Nicolas Roope, IADAS Jury Chairman of The Lovie Awards. “We are thrilled to celebrate these outstanding works and to see which ones the public will choose as People’s Lovie Winners.”

This year’s Website Finalists continue to showcase the critical role the Internet plays in everything from commerce to arts and culture. Finalists include Sky Serie TV, Radio24seven, Comedie Francaise, Birkenstock Online Store, Birmingham City Council, The Pool, Reykjavik Fashion Festival 2017 and Rijksmuseum Webshop.

In Mobile Sites, Apps & Podcasts, Finalists exemplifying best practices include AmpMe, Read to Unlock, WhatsGerman, AmazFit and The Guardian App for iOS and Android. And in this year’s new features category for Best Use of Messaging, Finalists include TfL TravelBot (Transport for London), Oxxio app (TamTam), Last Seen Online (Fools&Geniuses) and Humans 2.0 Facebook Bot (4creative / Channel 4).

Internet Video Finalists elegantly illustrate Europe’s creative prowess in digital storytelling. Finalists include Brutal Cut by Weber Shandwick and Batman - Warchild by RNDBT Content in the Public Service & Activism category; as well as Synesthesia VR by Denwerk and First Impressions by Guardian News & Media, both competing in Virtual Reality (Non-Branded). In Documentary, Finalists include Grounds by Darjeeling and Miner’s Walk by Josephine Lie, Walter & Alma (Marvelous) in Comedy.

The Finalists in Online Advertising demonstrate that Europe’s top agencies continue to deliver outstanding creative work. They include Mannschafts-Whopper (Grabarz & Partner), #catchcurious (fischerAppelt AG), Give a Beep (Edelman Deportivo), AiMEN (BETC), TELE2 Snapticket (Code D’Azur), Tour de Tech (Havas, Spain) and Speak like the Patron (We Are Social, Milan). For the second year, a Lovie Agency of the Year will be honoured, celebrating excellence across all categories. Contenders include N=5 (The Netherlands), Grabarz & Partner (Hamburg, Germany), Make me Pulse (France), Uncle Grey (Denmark) and HEIMAT (Berlin, Germany).

The ever-growing Social category features brands and content creators innovating across various platforms, including George Michael - Instagram x Vogue 'Freedom! 90' Video (Sony Music UK), Sexual Education on Snapchat! (We Digital), BBC News - General Election 2017 social media (BBC News), Like My Addiction (BETC), UOKM8 (LADbible Group) and The Guardian on Instagram.
Gianfranco Chicco, European Marketing Director of The Lovie Awards, adds: “This group of Lovie Finalists has really moved the bar for creativity on the European Internet. The level of expertise we’re seeing across online video campaigns and podcasts in particular further demonstrates that Europeans remain at the forefront of digital innovation.”

The 2017 Lovie Award Winners will be announced on Tuesday 11th October and celebrated with a star-studded awards show celebration at Picturehouse Central in London, on Thursday 16th November 2017.
