26 June 2021 - Press releaseSummer 2021 deserves a soundtrack that has you dancing like your heart is bursting with sunshine, and Spotify is here to help you do just that. Today, the Swedish audio streaming service, which is also the world’s most popular audio platform, is revealing its annual global song-of-the-summer predictions, including: Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” which is currently the top-streaming song on Spotify averaging 8 million plays a day, Ed Sheeran’s brand new track “Bad Habits” as well as “JUGGERNAUT” by Tyler, The Creator (feat. Lil Uzi Vert and Pharrell Williams) which also dropped today. Also on the list is Latin hit “Todo De Ti” by Rauw Alejandro as well as songs from Doja Cat, BTS, Dua Lipa, KAROL G, Justin Bieber and more.
Spanning a variety of genres - from hip-hop to country - our Songs of Summer predictions are based on a number of factors like streaming numbers, current trajectory and future forecasting from Spotify’s global curation team. The list also gives a nod to rising talent like indie-pop artist girl in red and rapper SEB.
And for the first time with Spotify, you can keep track of the songs streaming the most during the summer by following @spotifycharts on Instagram and Twitter, where updates are posted every Wednesday through August.
In the UK, Spotify has also pulled together a UK version of the Songs of Summer hit-predictor powerhouse. Made up of tracks that Spotify’s editorial experts predict will pop off in the UK this summer, the playlist includes: dance anthem “BED” by Joel Corry, Raye, David Guetta; the already viral drill remix “Body (Remix)” by Tion Wayne x Russ Millions; and “Smile” by alt rockers Wolf Alice. Other artists featured include Becky Hill, AJ Tracey, Calvin Harris and Jorja Smith.
In addition to this, it wouldn’t be a real UK summer without Love Island, and Spotify is coupling up with ITV’s biggest dating show again! To celebrate the Love Island energy this summer, Spotify’s hook up will be bigger and better than ever before, with four official Love Island playlists for fans of the show to really binge on Love Island vibes, including all the best tracks from this year’s shows and past series. The hero Sounds of Love Island playlist will be updated daily with up to 100 songs from the show; Love Island: Pool Party will be all about with pool party bangers, upbeat anthems and big hit classics; Love Island: Coupled Up will be full of love songs that really set the feels for those loved up moments and declarations on screen; and Love Island: Greatest Hits will be a collection of the biggest hits that have come out of the villa.
