Sound City Guest House: First line-up confirmed
27 March 2020 - Press release
The Lathums, Monarchy, Fever, Crawlers and Bronnie set for first episode on April 2
Subscription live streaming show to provide alternative revenue to acts affected by COVID-19 lockdown
Five acts have been confirmed for the first edition of Sound City’s new streaming programme, Guest House, which kicks off at 6pm on April 2.
The Lathums, Monarchy, Fever, Crawlers and Bronnie complete the line-up for the inaugural show, created to support artists with a new revenue stream during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Guest House was announced last week in response to the postponement of Liverpool Sound City 2020, which has been moved from May to September 25-27.
Featured artists, broadcasting from their own homes, will share equally in 50% of a £4.99 subscription fee for the weekly show.
On top of subscription revenue, acts will also be able to offer merch, new music, and any other special products their fans might enjoy during their slot, keeping 100% of direct sales, after costs.
Sound City MD Rebecca Ayres said: “The message of Guest House is simple: we want to support artists no matter where they are or what they are doing. It’s a place where we can enjoy, discover and give back to the artists who excite us.
“We are asking fans to give up £4.99 of their hard-earned cash every month in order to support the artists we bring via Guest House. Compared to many other streaming services, where only a tiny amount of money goes directly to the artist, Guest House’s ethos means that there is no blank space, hidden algorithm or crazy micropayment system. The subscription is divided equally, after operating costs, between artists who have performed on Guest House that month. Furthermore, all net revenue made via direct sales and donations during the performance segment goes directly to the artist.”
