Sony/ATV signs global sub-publishing agreement with ABIAH

Deal includes songs on rising classical star Carly Paoli’s first album

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed a global sub-publishing agreement with independent publishing and record company ABIAH.

The deal covers London-based ABIAH’s entire song catalogue, including songs by rising classical singing star and lyricist Carly Paoli and celebrated composer, arranger and conductor Romano Musumarra which feature on Paoli’s highly-acclaimed debut album Singing My Dreams. Released in 2017, the album charted at No. 2 on the UK’s Official Classical Albums chart, while earning 5 star reviews.

Sony/ATV UK SVP A&R and Catalogue Fran Malyan said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Carly, who is a huge talent and I look forward to being part of her journey to the top.”

Grant Black, CEO of ABIAH, said: “Sony/ATV is the number one publisher so it was a natural choice to collaborate with them. Not only is Carly a phenomenally talented classical singer, she is also a gifted songwriter, which is unusual in the genre of classical crossover. This deal fits perfectly with ABIAH's motto of ‘do it right first time’.”

Paoli’s songwriting credits on her album include co-writes with Ennio and Andrea Morricone and James Horner having written English lyrics for “Se Tu Fossi (Cinema Paradiso)” and the theme from Legends of the Fall which now bears the title “Memory of You”.

The English-Italian singer studied at Tring Park and The Royal Northern College of Music and has worked with Jose Carreras, Andrea Bocelli and David Foster. She has performed alongside stars including Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler and Oscar-winning actress and Grammy-winning singer Jennifer Hudson and was invited to perform for the Prince of Wales and the Pope.

Romano Musumarra, the Italian composer, producer and conductor, is best known for his work with Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti and Celine Dion. His credits on Singing My Dreams, which was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road studios in London,  include co-writes with Paoli, Oscar-winning songwriter Don Black and Grant Black as well as producing the record.
