Sentric Music Group and Strictly Confidential have renewed their exclusive songwriting agreement with Joe Hammill for the world.
An award-winning, British songwriter, Hammill landed his first No.1 record in 2016 after co-writing Alice On The Roof’s debut album Higher (Sony/PIAS), which topped the album charts in Alice’s native Belgium.
Higher has since been certified Gold in Belgium and its debut single, Easy Come Easy Go, topped the Ultrapop singles chart.
At home in the UK, Hammill co-wrote two tracks on Lucy Spraggan‘s 2017 album I Hope You Don’t Mind Me Writing (CTRL02), including the single Modern Day Frankenstein. The album debuted at No.12 on the Official UK Album Chart and Hammill’s co-writes received national airplay from the likes of Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2, The Wright Stuff on Channel 5 and This Morning on ITV. Hammill also has seven credits on Spraggan’s next album, due for release in April 2019.
Hammill signed a publishing deal with Sentric Music and Strictly Confidential in 2011. He won the prestigious Alan Hull Award (for North East songwriting) in the same year.
Hammill is one half of sibling duo Cattle & Cane, who, following co-write sessions with the likes of Shelly Poole and Beth Nielsen Chapman, are currently in the studio working on their third studio album with producer Pete Hammerton (The Shires, Wandering Hearts).
Their sophomore album Mirrors, released in May 2017, was produced by Luuk Cox at ICP Studios in Brussels and mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, Coldplay) at Abbey Road Studios in London.
The album’s first single 7 Hours has racked up over 2 million streams on Spotify and earned numerous plays on BBC Radio 2 from long-time champion Dermot O’Leary, who previously showcased the band on his Saturday Sessions compilation.
With extensive support from BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 6 Music and Amazing Radio, as well as Elton John on Beats 1 and Frank Skinner on Absolute Radio, Cattle & Cane have been heavily championed by the BBC Introducing team and previously performed on their stages at T In The Park and BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park.
Features from the likes of Q, the Independent and Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, as well as tours with The Head & The Heart, Half Moon Run, Nerina Pallot and Jake Isaac – not to mention support slots with Tom Odell and Brian Wilson – have helped Cattle & Cane build a loyal and passionate following who propelled Mirrors into the Top 20 of the Official UK Independent Album Chart.
2018 saw Cattle & Cane sell-out their biggest headline show to date, with over 1,000 fans watching the band perform alongside the Northern Orchestra at Middlesbrough Town Hall. This was followed up with further sold-out shows across the UK, including the prestigious Hall 2 at Sage Gateshead.
Middlesbrough FC recognised Hammill’s songwriting talents and included the lyrics to his Teesside anthem ‘Infant Hercules’ on the home shirts for the 2018-2019 season: https://www.mfc.co.uk/news/infant-hercules-takes-pride-of-place-on-new-boro-shirts
With Sentric and Strictly Confidential’s sync team at his disposal, Hammill’s music has been featured on a variety of TV shows including Made In Chelsea, The Only Way Is Essex and MTV’s Catfish, as well as on popular Brazilian soap-opera Avenida Brasil, where a Cattle & Cane track was included on the show’s official soundtrack alongside Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Paul McCartney.
Additionally, Hammill’s work has appeared on advertisements for trains (Scotrail), cars (Ford) and bicycles (Wiggle), as well as Italian film Nemiche Per La Pelle.
Away from Cattle & Cane, other recent sessions have seen Hammill write with the likes of Sivu, Amaroun, Shameboy, Cape Cub, Gill Landry, SJ Hoffman, Noemie Wolfs and Tessa Dixson. Hamill’s latest track with Dixson, Beautiful Pain, topped the HypeMachine chart.
Sentric’s Music Group’s Global Director of Music Services Simon Pursehouse said: “Working with people like Joe is what makes being a publisher such a joyous job. Seeing him develop over the last nine years into the incredibly strong songwriter he is today has been a journey I'm proud to have been a part of. Hearing what he's got up his sleeve for the forthcoming Cattle & Cane album makes me very excited indeed. For want of a more eloquent phrase; this man really, really knows how to write a song.”
Thomas De Mot, Creative Director at Strictly Confidential, said: “In every song camp, in every session, Joe blows people’s minds with his creativity. Apart from that, he’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Joe’s achievements are impressive already but I have no doubt that the best is yet to come.”
Henry Carden at Quiet Crown Management said: “Sentric Music and Strictly Confidential have both played a vital role in Joe’s development as a songwriter throughout his career to date. We’ve built a fantastic working relationship with their teams, so it goes without saying that we’re delighted to renew Joe’s publishing deal. Having spent the last couple of years writing with, and for, an eclectic mix of artists, Joe has really matured as a writer - which is one of many reasons that we’re all very excited about the new Cattle & Cane album.”
