PPL announces partnership with Music for Youth

The music licensing company partners with the national youth music charity to support access to music for young people.

PPL has partnered with the national youth music organisation and registered charity, Music for Youth (MFY), to support an engaging annual programme of music education and engagement for young people.

Music for Youth believes in the power of music to transform young people’s lives. They run performance-based festivals and events across the UK for approximately 60,000 young people aged 21 and under each year.  Music for Youth works primarily with schools, Music Education Hubs - groups of organisations including music education providers, local authorities, schools and Music Services, which support the delivery of music education - and other music providers, such as community-based music groups and young musicians making music outside of the school setting.

PPL will specifically support two of the charity’s initiatives - the Frequencies programme and their MFY Contemporary Regional Festivals – both of which seek to provide opportunities for progression and a performance platform for young musicians, as well as offering pathways to careers in the music and creative industries.

Music for Youth stages the National Festival and Festival Fringe annually in Birmingham where 10,000 young people converge for 5 days of music-making across the city. It also stages the MFY Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London, with 1,000 young musicians performing each night. Music for Youth’s events showcase the energy, vibrancy, and musical talent of young people from across the UK and include a wide range of music to include brass, classical, folk, choral, urban and contemporary.

Judith Webster, Chief Executive of Music for Youth welcomed the partnership with PPL: “We are delighted that PPL will be supporting our work to create opportunities for talented young musicians of all backgrounds, and in particular our work with urban and contemporary artists. This is an exciting area of development for us as we move towards our 50th Anniversary in 2020, and aims to reflect the interests and needs of young people UK-wide. With the funding climate being so challenging for arts and education charities, PPL’s support is crucial and makes a real difference.”

Peter Leathem, Chief Executive Officer at PPL commented:  “PPL is proud to be supporting Music for Youth in 2018. Their passion for ensuring young people have the chance to participate in high-quality musical activities regardless of background or musical style is fantastic to see.  We are glad to be joining the likes of the National Union of Teachers, Vivendi, Unity Trust Bank and Trinity College London as sponsors and we look forward to supporting their work nurturing the next generation of musical talent.”
