Nominations announced for the Ivor Novello Awards 2017

BASCA, in association with PRS for Music, announce the nominations for the 62nd Ivor Novello Awards [‘The Ivors’].  The Ivors will take place on Thursday 18th May at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

The Ivors celebrate, honour and reward excellence in songwriting and composing.  Created by BASCA [British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors] in 1956, they are named in honour of Ivor Novello, Britain’s most successful and distinguished theatrical composer at the time, and represent the pinnacle of musical achievement and peer recognition in the music industry.

Today, BASCA announce nominations across six award categories for works released in the UK in 2016.  The awards represent peer recognition, with each judged category having a separate panel compiled entirely of specially invited songwriters and composers.

The categories include Best Song Musically and Lyrically, Best Contemporary Song, Album Award, Best Original Film Score and Best Television Soundtrack, as well as PRS for Music Most Performed Work, which is sponsored and compiled by The Ivors sponsor PRS for Music.

The 2017 nominations are:

Best Song Musically and Lyrically
This award recognises excellence in songwriting craft; with particular reference to melody, lyrics, harmony and structure.

On 18th May, BASCA will announce the winners of both the nominated awards as well as those presented to outstanding songwriters and composers in recognition of their contribution to British music.
