MRC Data Reveals France 360 Report



 

Music is a reliable source of comfort for consumers, who are turning to music as they spend more time inside:

  • 75% of the general population in France engages with music, with 91% of music listeners saying they listen to it at home. 
  • Among total respondents, 51% say music is important/extremely important to them, followed by music videos (24%), and live streamed/virtual music events (23%).

 

The market shows that music listeners in France still rely on streaming for free:

  • There is ample opportunity to win over new paid subscribers as data shows that 73% of music listeners stream music through a free music streaming service and only 10% currently pay for a music streaming service subscription.
  • Streaming services are becoming increasingly important for discovery as 29% of music listeners discover new songs and artists on audio streaming platforms (+7% vs. 2020)

 

The trends show an increase in in-home device acceptance, with listeners choosing devices that prioritize high quality audio in that environment:

  • 12% use smart speakers, 11% of listeners use smart TVs (+3% vs. 2020), and 8% use an internet-to-TV streaming device (+5% vs. 2020) for music.

 

Music listeners in France seem to 'yearn for the past:'

  • 70% of music listeners say they enjoy music from past decades, while 26% consider nostalgia when choosing between music formats for purchase. 
  • 39% have actually purchased physical formats in the last 12 months, and 26% have purchased digital tracks/ albums. 

 

Music has even become an integral part of social entertainment:

  • 20% of listeners discover music on social media sites, while 14% do so on short video clip sites like TikTok. 

 

Live Streamed Events:

  • 33% of the general population have live streamed a music performance in the past 12 months, and 52% would be interested in doing so even after in-person live music events are back.
