Magic Radio to rebrand to a Christmas only station

In a UK first, Magic Radio announces playlist switch to 100% Christmas music throughout December.

It’s beginning to SOUND a lot like Christmas. Today, national music station, Magic Radio announce it will play nothing but non-stop Christmas songs from this Friday - the eve of the very first day of the festive advent calendar Christmas count-down.

In a first for a UK radio station, Magic’s playlist is set to be transformed from Take That, Madonna, Queen and Abba into a twinkling radio station dedicated to festive hits in the run-up to Christmas Day.

Launching on Friday 30th November at 9am on the Ronan Keating and Harriet Scott Magic Breakfast Show, listeners can expect festive editorial content and a selection of much-loved Christmas pop hits from the last fifty years - with an emphasis on 80s and 90s classics such WHAM! ‘Last Christmas’, The Pogue’s ‘Fairytale of New York’, Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want Christmas’, Elton John’s ‘Step into Christmas’ and Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmastime’.

Commenting on the rebrand, Tony Moorey, Group Content Director said, “Our listeners come to Magic Radio to lift their mood and with Christmas music being the number one reason for putting the UK in that festive spirit, we decided to embrace the season and turn the station 100% Christmas all of December”.

Magic Breakfast’s Ronan Keating said, “We’ve had this under wraps for three months and I am so excited that the news is out there. I can’t wait to kick Christmas off this Friday at 9am with our first Christmas song voted for by our listeners at magic.co.uk”.

Magic Breakfast’s Harriet Scott added “No major station has ever done this before, what a way to get into the festive spirit!”.

Today’s launch follows the station’s Magic of Christmas event last weekend which saw Rick Astley, Boyzone, Gabrielle and Katherine Jenkins perform stunning seasonal songs at the London Palladium. Not only that - they are bringing the festive experiences to their audience with partners including Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, Christmas at Kew, Christmas at London Zoo and the seasonal events at the Royal Albert Hall.
