Len Phillips Big Band - Abbey Road Studios 20th March 2021
25 February 2021 - Press releaseFor over 30 years the Len Phillips Big Band has been entertaining lovers of swing music across the UK and around the World.
The 17 piece band, whilst recording a new album, will also be performing the first Big Band livestream from the legendary Abbey Road Studios on 20th March as a tribute to Len Phillips who sadly passed away earlier this year. They will be joined by Matt Ford, considered the finest big band singer in the UK, for 90 minutes of the most swinging music and brilliant songs.
In 2010 the band came under the new leadership of Joe Pettitt bringing a more vibrant and youthful feel to their direction. In the last ten years, the orchestra has worked with the Puppini Sisters, Joe Stilgoe, Gary Williams, Clare Teal, Len Goodman, Gary Wilmot, Anita Harris and the late David Jacobs CBE.
The Len Phillips Big Band have been heard on BBC Radio 2 and play regularly at The Ritz in London. They were also invited to play for The Moscow Viennese Ball.
Collaborations by members of the band read like a who’s who of showbusiness royalty and includes singer Matt (Friday Night Is Music Night, Grammy nominated John Wilson Orchestra). Band members, between them, have also worked with Ella Fitzgerald, The Beatles, Bing Crosby, Freddie Mercury, Tom Jones, The Beatles, Ted Heath and Robbie Williams.
The band includes orchestral players from current West End shows and regulars on the London session scene. Bandleader Joe Pettitt’s credits include touring and recording work with Burt Bacharach, Noel Gallagher, Joss Stone, David Soul, Rick Astley, Curtis Stigers, Michael Feinstein and Tony Christie. He is also a regular with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, RPO and John Wilson Orchestra.
