Kobalt Signs Betty Who to Recordings Deal
22 February 2018 - Press releaseBetty Who to Release Her First Independent Record with Kobalt
Kobalt, a music and technology company built for artists, songwriters, publishers and labels as an alternative to the traditional music business model, today has announced they have signed a recordings deal with Australian pop singer Betty Who.
The signing also marks a departure for Betty Who, as it’s her first release as an independent artist after leaving her major label. Her first single from the album, “Ignore Me,” was released on January 19 with the Kobalt team supporting setup, marketing, and release.
Said Ron Cerrito, President of Kobalt Music Recordings America, of the deal: “Betty and team have built a loyal fanbase and global career from the ground up. Now, as an independent artist, she’s redefining her own path and taking the reins in a powerful way. Her vision for conquering the world with her music is contagious. We could not be prouder to partner with Betty as she, herself, writes the next chapter.”
Australia-born and Los Angeles-based pop star Betty Who has quietly elevated herself to a worldwide phenomenon on her own terms. Acclaimed by Entertainment Weekly, Vogue, Rolling Stone, Buzzfeed, Elle, and more, Betty’s sophomore album, The Valley, yielded a string of international hits, including “I Love You Always Forever” certified double-platinum in Australia and “Human Touch.” Her total Spotify streams exceed 150 million as she regularly averages over 3.3 million monthly listeners on the platform.
Beyond countless sold-out headline tours, she’s delivered knockout television appearances on The Today Show, Late Night With Seth Meyers, The View, and many more. Betty’s commitment to charity, health, and wellness matches her passion for music. She has given performances to benefit UNICEF, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, The Trevor Project, Human Rights Campaign, and many more.
“I'm so excited to be working with Kobalt in this new chapter of my career,” said Betty Who. “It is so clear to me that they share the vision I have had for myself for so long and I believe they are the perfect team to help facilitate this very exciting transition. I can't wait to see all the amazing things we will achieve together.”
“We are thrilled to be able to work with such an innovative and creative driven company like Kobalt,” said Betty Who’s manager, Ethan Schiff. “Betty is a passionate and incredible artist and person, and from our first meeting with Kobalt we knew that our values and goals would align perfectly and create something special.”
