Interstellar Music Services signs Kula Shaker among a host of new additions to its artist roster

Interstellar Music Services (“Interstellar”), a boutique artist services and rights management company that helps songwriters and recording artists to maximise the value of their music, has announced the signing of a number of artists, including double platinum-selling band Kula Shaker. Other new additions include Cole Rolland, Lack of Afro, Michael McArthur, Mirla and Xavier Weeks.

Interstellar will work to maximise the collection of royalties due to their new signings through its suite of services including digital distribution, sync and brand partnerships, metadata cleaning, neighbouring rights, publishing administration, DSP re-pitching and detailed analysis and reporting, all while enabling these artists to maintain full ownership of their rights.

The signing of Kula Shaker represents the highest profile addition to Interstellar’s roster to date, marking a significant step forward for the boutique rights management company which launched in January 2023. Kula Shaker rose to prominence in the late 1990s with a number of hit singles, culminating in the band’s number 1 debut album K. Since reforming in 2004, it has released four further albums, accompanied in recent years by tours of Europe and the UK.

A number of promising up-and-coming artists have also selected Interstellar as their rights management partner. Xavier Weeks is a 20-year-old American melodic rapper with an already impressive global fan base of over 300,000 monthly Spotify listeners; Mirla, who creates unique neo-classical soundscapes, is the Company’s first signing in Australia; multi-instrumentalist Lack of Afro, who produces throwback sounds with groove and complexity, has an extensive catalogue with a number of opportunities to create additional value; and Cole Rolland’s million-plus subscribers represent a significant and growing audience for his rock and electronic guitar music. Michael McArthur’s latest album Milky Stars was produced and co-written by Grammy award winner Jacquire King, who has worked with Kings of Leon and Tom Waits and whose interest in the songs Interstellar will also represent.

These deals reflect Interstellar’s strategy to represent a wide range of genres, from Rock to Reggae, Neo Classical to Melodic Rap, and Alternative Rock to British Soul. They also underline the Company’s global market position as the rights management solution for artists at a pivotal point in their careers, particularly independent artists who have outgrown DIY platforms or household names whose rights are reverting.

Andy Robinson, co-founder and CEO, said: As well as enabling our new artists to develop their careers, these partnerships provide momentum to our ambition for Interstellar Music Services to become the go-to solution for artists and songwriters who want effective music rights management. The works of these artists present tremendous opportunities for sync placements, an area where the Interstellar team has extensive experience, while also providing a perfect platform from which to further grow their fanbase. They will also benefit from our granular analytical rights management, technological infrastructure and global network of partners.”

Commenting on the new partnership with Interstellar, Kev Nixon and Sarah Clayman, management for Kula Shaker, said: “We are impressed by Interstellar’s unique combination of expertise, experience, flexibility and passion for music, which made them the best choice to manage and develop the band’s catalogue of music rights.  Kula Shaker’s digital management and catalogue have been underutilised and we are excited by the care and attention to detail and the worldwide opportunities we know the Interstellar team can provide. It’s a pleasure to work with Andy, Sean and David, and I have no doubt they will become a force to be reckoned with over the coming years.”
