Daði Freyr Confirms Exclusive Performance At Iceland Airwaves 2020

Icelandic pop sensation Daði Freyr makes a triumphant return to Reykjavík this November with an exclusive show for music festival Iceland Airwaves

Since performing at last year’s edition of Iceland Airwaves, Daði has ‘broken the internet’ with a winning combination of musical earworms, viral dance routines, genius film clips and customised sweaters
.
His omnipresent single “Think About Things” was the firm favourite for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest final that never was. While Covid-19 cancelled Eurovision, Daði continued to win the hearts of admirers worldwide, even including celebrity endorsements from Russell Crowe, Jennifer Garner, P!nk and James Corden. Following petitions to crown Daði this year’s default winner, he went on to win Eurostream 2020, the virtual finals held by top Eurovision experts.

Savvy music obsessives have also admired Daði’s pop precision, with Hot Chip (Iceland Airwaves alumni and one of Daði’s favourite bands) turning their hands to a killer rework of “Think About Things”. His latest track “Where We Wanna Be” (his second single in English) is also proving to follow suit, dominating radio airwaves and viral charts worldwide.

With Daði’s European Tour this December next to sold out and a huge date at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town in April 2021, where better to see him first than at Iceland’s best new music festival?

Daði explains how even though he’s performed at the festival several times since his first show back in 2012, the magic is always there… “I can’t wait to be performing again at my favourite music festival of all time, there is something special about Airwaves. I can’t wait to show you my new live set.”

As of this Monday 15th June, Iceland is once again ‘open for business’ with its borders re-opening to welcome visitors from all over the world. Iceland’s response to the Covid-19 has been swift and decisive, a world leader in testing and containment.

Iceland’s safety as a tourist destination – just announced (again) as number 1 in the Global Peace Index - combined with spectacular nature, clean air and open spaces (all within easy reach of Reykjavík), makes Iceland Airwaves the opportunity to savour the best of what Iceland has to offer – culture and nature in a setting like no other.

Iceland Airwaves MD Will Larnach-Jones adds: "Iceland has been carefully monitoring the global covid-19 situation closely, both at home and aboard, and the cases in Iceland are now low enough to safely reinstate the return of international visitors to their shores.

The festival is set to deliver a great experience in a safe environment, and we are feeling very optimistic for an amazing end of year. For Daði Freyr to return for an exclusive show at Airwaves is certainly adding to the excitement."

The 2019 edition proved that Iceland Airwaves is firmly back at its best and was rewarded with a nomination for Best Small Festival at the NME Awards in February 2020. The festival follows on this year with an impressive range of the freshest, most diverse new artists from around the world.
