Cooking Vinyl make a splash with new signings Swim Deep and more
08 May 2019 - Press releaseAlso sign Isobel Campbell, Sam Lee, Kerri Watt, and Saint Raymond
Cooking Vinyl have had an exciting start to 2019 with a raft of new signings joining the indie’s diverse and exciting roster.
Indie sensation Swim Deep have signed for a worldwide artist services deal. Following a selective string of shows last year, the group are gearing up for their third full length LP with some summer appearances already lined up including Live at Leeds and Dot To Dot Festivals. The band have enjoyed critical praise with their last album, with single ‘Namaste’ named Annie Mac’s “Hottest Record” while several other tracks gained “Single of the Week” slots on BBC Radio 1.
On joining the roster, Swim Deep said, “We’re really excited to be working with the great people at Cooking Vinyl. We can’t wait to release our third album which we’ve worked so hard on.”
Isobel Campbell has recently joined the Cooking Vinyl family for a worldwide artist services deal. Campbell was an influential member of Belle & Sebastian where she played percussion, cello and sang, as well as co-writing their Top 20 track ‘Legal Man’. Following her departure, Campbell released several acclaimed albums with Screaming Trees’ Mark Lanegan alongside collaborations with The Jesus & Mary Chain, joining them for their sold out shows at L.A’s Hollywood Palladium in December 2018.
Campbell said of the signing: "I am very much looking forward to releasing my new record with Cooking Vinyl and working with the innovative team there. As a fiercely independent artist signing with them felt like the right thing to do."
Also joining the roster is Mercury Award nominee Sam Lee for a worldwide royalty deal. Known as a traditional music specialist dedicated to collecting, restoring and sharing ancient music from Britain and Ireland, the folk luminary is working on new material following a recent partnership with the RSPB, alongside Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien, to raise awareness for declining bird species.
Meanwhile, Americana-inspired pop star Kerri Watt has signed for a worldwide royalty deal to release her debut album. Also signed to Cooking Vinyl Publishing, Watt has had considerable support from BBC Radio 2 and recently joined Keith Urban on stage as a special guest for his March shows in London. Finally, Saint Raymond joins the label for a worldwide artist services deal ahead of his highly anticipated second album. The singer-songwriter has enjoyed support slots throughout the UK and Europe with HAIM and Ed Sheeran, as well as his own solo tour of the UK at the end of 2018.
Commenting on the recent additions to the roster, MD of Cooking Vinyl Rob Collins said, “I’m so excited about these new signings. They show the breadth and depth of our approach to A&R, artist development and long-term support. This is just the start of a very active year for Cooking Vinyl and I’d like to thank the A&R team – Ollie Slaney and Stephen Budd – for all of their hard work.”
