Clare McConnell joins WMG as Senior Privacy Counsel
11 December 2019 - Press releaseWarner Music Group (WMG) has appointed Clare McConnell to the new role of Senior Privacy Counsel. She joins the company from Guardian Media Group and will be based in London, reporting to Kate Logan, WMG’s General Counsel, International.
Clare is an online privacy expert and specialist in compliance with data privacy legislation in the US, Europe and beyond.
Clare McConnell says: “Music companies have more of a direct relationship with fans than ever before. With that access comes the responsibility to treat people’s data sensitively and ensure that it’s only used to enhance their consumer experience. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to ensure that Warner Music helps set the standard in this important area.”
Kate Logan adds: “Ensuring fans’ data is treated appropriately is a huge priority for us, so it’s fantastic that Clare has agreed to spearhead our efforts in their area. She has an incredible track record of working on some of the biggest data privacy programmes in the world, so it’s a real coup to bring her to Warner.”
Clare began her career in Scotland before moving to London where she worked for a number of leading law firms, including as a partner at Pinsent Masons, where she built up the company’s award-winning international transport team. She then went on to become lead commercial negotiator and Head of the Projects Department at Stephenson Harwood Solicitors before working as a specialist independent consultant.
Clare then joined Genomics England as its Commercial Counsel and Data Protection Officer, guiding its work as one of the largest big data health projects in Europe. Genomics England was set up by the UK government to sequence 100,000 genomes from patients with rare diseases and their families to help better find cures for their illnesses.
Clare most recently worked for Guardian Media Group, where she led a team that ensured data privacy compliance and good practice across the Group’s operations in the UK, US and Australia.
