Bergen label Gems partners with Warner Music Norway

Having quickly established itself through recent releases by iris, Jonas Hibiki and døssi, Bergen-based record label GEMS is today announcing a distribution deal with Warner Music Norway.

GEMS is the brainchild of Brilliance Records founder Ruben Nesse and Geir Luedy of Made Management, home to superstars Sigrid and Aurora.  With years of experience and plaudits behind them, Nesse and Luedy have made great strides with GEMS and now are adding pop star Hedda Mae, producer-supergroup Cabin Fever and future breakout star Ur Monarch to their already-brilliant artist roster.

“Myself and Geir have talked about a collaboration for some time and about a year ago we started co-managing an artist together,” says Nesse. “Working together felt natural and we decided to join forces and start a new label, and voila! GEMS was born.”

Nesse explains there’s nothing in the GEMS ethos beyond wanting to release good music, saying “we’re eager to find new gems - and jams - and shape/develop them!” Describing GEMS as the young and ambitious“new kid in town” Nesse and Luedy set out to find people they could potentially work with - and Warner Music seemed to fit the bill. “We were looking for a solid partner that shared the same visions and ambitions as us,” they say. “We were thrilled by their enthusiasm and we are super happy to be working so close with the wonderful team at Warner Music Norway!”

Leif O. Ribe, General Manager of Warner Music Norway agrees: “We are extremely excited about this partnership with GEMS. Geir and Ruben are industry veterans with impressive track records of developing talent, so we are delighted that they have chosen Warner Music as the home for their new label.”

With so many great artists on GEMS, Nesse and Luedy won’t be drawn on personal favourites - how could you choose - but offer this theory on the Norwegian city of Bergen proving to be such a fertile ground for new music of all genres: “water and mountains make excellent gems!”
