Leading new music showcase festival Iceland Airwaves and Japanese ticketing technology platform Zaiko have forged a pioneering partnership, offering a new kind of digital festival offering. Music festivals have always been more than just an event - a great festival is a culture, lifestyle, and significant brand to which fans subscribe. Zaiko is enabling this even further through their digital event layer in Asia, while on the other side of the world Iceland Airwaves, together with Sena, have begun to transform festivals into digital platforms, acknowledging the opportunity to evolve the format.
With a new Zaiko and Iceland Airwaves collaboration, “Iceland Airwaves Japan”, fans will be able to enjoy music and culture all year round, culminating in the opportunity to go to the festival in person or online. After the event, they can relive their favorite moments through video content, access exclusive after-parties, or check out performances they may have missed.
Zaiko is a Japan-based technology company, and from March 2020 developed a digital layer inside its ticketing platform to support paid livestreams and other digital events. It has become the largest player in the world for ticketed digital events with over 2 million tickets sold and over 50 million USD paid to artists and organizers. Zaiko is now combining ticket technology with subscriptions to provide festivals with tools they need for the future, the first of which is Iceland Airwaves - notable for their digital event in 2020 'Live From Reykjavík'.

This partnership follows Iceland Airwaves successful livestreaming pivot in 2020, which saw the best in Icelandic talent coming together for a two day online festival ‘Live From Reykjavik’. Witnessed by thousands of ticket holders around the world, the likes of Of Monsters and Men, Ólafur Arnalds, Daði Freyr, Ásgeir and many more performed from iconic Reykjavik venues in a way not seen before.
Iceland Airwaves also returns in November 2021, welcoming Arlo Parks, Metronomy, Black Pumas, Sad Night Dynamite, Bartees Strange, Sin Fang, Vök, Daughters of Reykjavik, MAMMÚT and many more.
