The Stories

Kate Nash

30 Jun 2010

First featured: 09 August 2006 , unsigned Results: signed to Fiction/Polydor, completed publishing deal after RotD feature Upon hearing about Kate, we got in touch with Ollie Slaney at ATC management to listen to some demos. The resulting feature of 'Little Red' added to the already intense A&R interest. A publishing deal with Mike McCormack at Universal Music Publishing followed several weeks after our feature and after that Fiction picked Kate up for records. The track was a hidden track on her Paul Epworth-produced No.1 album 'Made Of Bricks' which went platinum in 2007. We're happy to report that Record of the Day were thanked in the album sleeve notes.

We say: The buzz surrounding Kate Nash has been building quickly. Kate was placed in Lily Allen's Top 8 on her MySpace, after Lily heard a demo, she also recommended Kate as 'one to watch' to readers of Ireland's Hot Press. Then Joe Mott's Star Hot column proved it was bang on yet again by mentioning that she was the subject of intense A&R attention. We saw her perform at Electric Gardens in Kent recently to a small but spellbound crowd. This rough demo doesn’t really do her talents justice. The work we've heard so far is inventive and left-field, in the Tori Amos/Regina Spektor mode. There's an experimental edge to her work, and her lyrics are spiked with a wonderful dry wit. This track is among three 7” singles that she will release on her own Victim Records label this September. Kate Nash is available for records, publishing, a booking agent and pluggers but not, we imagine, for long. JF London Gig: 12 Aug, The Good Ship, Kilburn NW1
