This outstanding song by French-based duo Her featured in last year’s global Apple commercial ’Shot on iPhone’. The word has been spreading ever since and led to the NME tagging them as one of 2017’s Bands To Watch. Five Minutes is taken from their Live Tape #1, which serves up a devilish blend of funk, R&B and stripped-back soul, skilfully produced with flashes of indie and electro influences. Victor was born in Germany and grew up with the sounds of Kraftwerk and art rockers Can, whilst Simon spent his formative years in the US absorbing black music in all of its glorious forms. Last year’s UK tour dates were all sold out, Radio 1 support has come from Annie Mac and Huw Stephens, and a debut album is due later this year, preceded by Tape #2 in March. They’re another act we highly recommend on the Eurosonic line-up and play tonight (January 12) just after midnight at Vrijdag. The first thirty seconds here manage to lure you in with little more than a finger click-track and bassline. Then that irresistible, insidious groove takes over. In short: it’s an absolute killer tune.
