Unsigned London-based artist RENÉ first came to our attention back in April. We were instantly seduced by her track Underwater, which pulled us in with its minimal, soulful vibe. It impressed Jamz Supernova at 1Xtra too, who played the song on the station. So we’re delighted she’s back with another wonderfully stylish track that’s expressive and equally as mesmerising. Thanks to our support and that of Solange Knowles’ influential tastemaker blog Saint Heron, there’s been a lot of interest in her music and the lady behind it, especially from the fashion industry. Stylish press shots have been taken by acclaimed UK photographer Scarlett Casciello, who’s dressed her in Nicopanda, one of Lady Gaga’s favourite brands. All in all, it shows that there’s a big focus on the visual content of RENÉ’s work, which will ramp up soon through collaborations with designers and video directors. With its deep reverberating bass synth lines, it’s dark, stark, brooding and dreamy, as well as deeply sensuous and soulful. As a result, hers is a name we’ll hear and see so much more of in the coming months.
