Warner Music France President Thierry Chassagne honoured as Knight of the National Order of Merit

Thierry Chassagne, President of Warner Music France, yesterday was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite – a Knight of France’s prestigious National Order of Merit. This is a high honor bestowed by the President of the French Republic to individuals with distinguished military or civil achievements – “acts of devotion, bravery, generosity, real merit or a measurable commitment to serving others or France.” The National Order of Merit was founded in 1963 by then French President Charles de Gaulle.

In a fitting tribute to Chassagne, the presentation was made by legendary French music executive Bernard de Bosson, who was a central figure in the formation and growth of Warner Music France, running the company for 17 years. 

Chassagne was surrounded by family and friends, as well as a number of artists including Jean-Louis Aubert, Dany Brillant, Serge Lama, Christophe Maé, Gérard Manset, Line Renaud, Passi and Alain Souchon.

Warner Music Group CEO Steve Cooper said: “Thierry is one of the most admired and accomplished executives in the music business. Since joining WMG 13 years ago, he has led Warner Music France into an era of great artistry and accomplishment. This is a wonderful recognition of all he has done for artists, music, and his country.”

Last year, Warner Music France had the biggest airplay share in the country of any label, and at the 2016 NRJ Music Awards, its local and international acts won nine of the 13 prizes presented. 

Chassagne also serves as President of the Société Civile Des Producteurs Phonographiques (SCPP).
