Tim Ingham announced as non-executive director of IMPEL

Independent Music Publishers e-Licensing (IMPEL) has announced Tim Ingham as non-executive director.

Tim, a former editor of UK trade magazine Music Week, is the founder of Music Business Worldwide (MBW). Launched in January 2015, MBW has quickly become a leading provider of analysis and news on the global music industry, with ambitious expansion plans in the works for 2016.

A respected commentator for national and international media, Tim has also written about the music business for titles as diverse as The Guardian, The Independent, The Observer, The Daily Mail and NME.

In 2014, he was named one of the world’s 500 Most Influential Britons – and one of the 20 most influential British music execs – by The Sunday Times & Debrett’s.

IMPEL was established in 2010, enabling independent publishers to collectively license their Anglo-American mechanical digital rights on a pan-European basis.

Its 40+ members include the likes of Beggars Music, Bucks Music Group, Imagem Music, Mute Song Ltd, peermusic, The Music Sales Group and Warp Music Limited, and represent some of the world’s preeminent songwriters and composers.

Along with the MPA, MCPS and PMLL, IMPEL is part of the MPA Group of Companies.

Jane Dyball, CEO MPA Group of Companies said:

“We are delighted to welcome Tim onto the board of IMPEL. The success of MBW is testament to his understanding of the global music industry, particularly with regard to its relationship with the digital sphere. This appointment represents the next step for IMPEL which is fast becoming the go-to home for independent publishers and shows how serious we are at staying best in class for the licensing of indie publishing repertoire into digital services."

Tim Ingham, founder Music Business Worldwide, added:

“Elvis Presley, Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, The Kinks, Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, One Direction and Bob Marley: they've all recorded tracks penned or part-penned by songwriters signed to IMPEL's publisher family. Only a nitwit would turn down the chance to impart even a tiny influence on a catalogue of such magnitude and class.

"The digital era flings threats and opportunities towards this historic repertoire on a daily basis. Making smart and nimble licensing decisions has never been more crucial.

"Clearly, IMPEL is already doing a bang-up job at answering that challenge, but I'm delighted to add my input to help navigate these sometimes choppy waters."
