THE SMASHING PUMPKINS SIGN ARTIST SERVICES DEAL WITH BMG

New York / Berlin, 14 April 2014 – The Smashing Pumpkins have signed a worldwide exclusive Artist Services Deal with BMG Chrysalis US to release the band’s next two albums Monuments To An Elegy and Day For Night. The first single is expected at the end of 2014, the albums in 2015.

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of the most acclaimed US alternative rock bands, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide and winning multiple Grammy Awards. The group’s hits such as ‘1979,’ ‘Bullet with Butterfly Wings,’ ‘Tonight, Tonight‘ and ‘Disarm’ defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a new generation.

Formed in 1988, the band has released several platinum-awarded albums, including Gish (1991), Siamese Dream (1993), the nine-times platinum Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (1995) and Adore (1998). After a pause of seven years, The Smashing Pumpkins released their acclaimed sixth album Zeitgeist in 2007, followed by several online releases and their latest studio album Oceania in 2012, which entered the US Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at Number Four and earned the Number One spot on the US Independent Albums Chart.

The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan commented on the recording sessions, which started this week: “Plenty of songs have been written and are ready to go,” adding “We expect a single out by year's end.”

Richard Blackstone, EVP Creative and Business Development: “BMG Artist Services is thrilled to be the new home for Smashing Pumpkins' next two album releases. Billy's supreme musicianship and approach to the modern day music business together with his proactive and innovative management team at Prospect Park, is the perfect match for BMG's new model for worldwide releases. Adding BMG to this great Smashing Pumpkin's team is the perfect set up to usher in the next chapter of the band's legacy.”

The two new Smashing Pumpkins albums expected in 2015 will be released jointly through BMG Artist Services and the band’s own Martha’s Music label. Under the BMG Artist Services model, artists retain ownership of their recordings, have full oversight of budgets and control of marketing - and receive the majority of the proceeds. BMG Artist Services responds to an increasing demand from artists to control their own careers. Artists to have released albums through BMG Artist Services include Anastacia, Backstreet Boys, Bryan Ferry and You Me At Six.
