BRIT nominations show to be hosted by Emma Willis
2017 BRIT nominations will be announced on 14th January live on a primetime ITV Saturday evening slot – more performances still to be announced
In a BRITs first, the 2017 nominations will be announced on an ITV primetime Saturday evening slot on the 14th of January and will be hosted by one of the most popular and in demand presenters on TV, Emma Willis. This prestigious and newly created slot for the nominations gives a huge platform to British music on mainstream TV and as such The BRITs have refreshed their nominations launch to match this significant moment and in keeping with this high profile TV slot The BRITs have secured an incredible line-up to launch the 2017 Awards.
With 18 BRIT nominations between them to date, chart superstars, Olly Murs and Craig David along with newcomer and Christine and the Queens are announced as the first live performers for the show with further announcements to be made in the coming weeks.
Speaking about the nominations launch show, BRITs Chariman Jason Iley said:
“Olly and Craig are two of the biggest British male artists out there with long and successful careers having both enjoyed Number One albums this year. Christine and the Queens are one of the most exciting and innovative acts in the world right now. I’m delighted that they are all taking part in this new BRITs Nominations Launch event on the 14th January. To add to this already stellar line-up we are also thrilled to have Emma Willis as our host. She’s one of the most talented presenters on TV and adds another level to what promises to be one of the best BRITs launches in recent years.”
Olly Murs is currently Number One in the album charts, for the fourth time in a row, with his new studio album ’24HRS’ which was released last week. He’s been nominated for an impressive six BRIT Awards since 2011. Earlier this year Olly announced his ‘24HRS’ tour, which will start in March of 2017.
Olly said: “I’m excited to announce I’ll be playing at the BRITs 2017 nominations launch. Make sure you tune in to ITV on Saturday January 14th! I always love playing live and this will be a great warm up for my 24HRS tour next year."
Craig David’s performance on the 14th of January will cap what has been an incredible year for one of the biggest selling British male artists of the last 20 years. His latest album, ‘Following My Intuition’, hit the Number one spot sixteen years after his huge debut album ‘Born To Do It’. ]With 12 BRIT nominations to his name Craig is equally renowned as a brilliant live performer.
Craig said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be involved with The BRITs this year which always showcases the best of British and International music and highlights how important our industry is on a global scale.”
French artist Christine and the Queens has stormed the charts and dominated the festival season in 2016. Having recently completed her UK tour Christine and the Queens’ Heloïse Letissier has been one of the most talked about artists of the year. A huge star in her own country, her synth pop style combined with a unique and genuine stage presence has seen her album ‘Chaleur Humaine’ make waves in both the US and UK.
The nominations show will be hosted by Emma Willis. A natural presenter, Emma is one of the most successful presenters working in broadcast today. With an extremely impressive C.V. Emma has a unique down to earth style and professionalism that that has seen her become highly sought after. Coupled with her love of music she is the perfect choice to host the BRIT nominations.
Emma said: “I’ve always been a massive fan of The BRIT Awards, it’s one of the most fun nights of the year. I watch it religiously so I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the team and to reveal all the nominations for 2017.”
2017 will celebrate the Awards 37th show since its debut year in 1977 (which was followed by a short break of a couple of years). The BRIT Awards have established themselves as a global music institution that annually celebrates UK chart and commercial successes. This year (2016) The BRITs celebrated an incredible night in British music with Adele picking up four Awards as well as giving a show stopping performance. The Awards raised an incredible £265k for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and The BRIT Trust from Google Play live performance downloads and streams from the ceremony. The BRIT Awards annually raises funds for The BRIT Trust charity, whose main beneficiaries are the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and other selected charities. To date, over £16.8million has been raised for The BRIT Trust charity.
The BRIT Awards 2017 with MasterCard will be broadcast live on ITV - Wednesday 22nd February from London’s O2 Arena.
