Saints, Sinners and Synth-heads: London Premier of Blancmange Documentary Exploring Ireland’s 80s Electronic Scene

PlayworksTV is proud to announce the London premier of our award-winning documentary film You Keep Me Running Round and Round, at the new Lights of Soho gallery, 7pm Wednesday 8th July.

Chronicling the impact of electronic pioneers Blancmange on Ireland’s blossoming 80s synth scene, the film turns the genre on its head by focusing on the fans who were there right from the start. Introduced by Blancmange frontman Neil Arthur and with live footage of the band’s first ever performance in Ireland, the film was recognised with an Award of Merit at the Los Angeles Indie Fest in 2014.

In late 2013 Blancmange set out to rectify the fact that they’d never played a gig on the Emerald Isle. Despite this absence, they’d influenced an entire generation of electronic enthusiasts and their records featured on many mix-tapes across Ireland in the 80s. The Happy Families Too tour was the perfect opportunity to play live in the land of Saints, Sinners and Synth-heads. Playworks TV travelled too, to uncover the stories and nostalgia of fans who’d waited 30 years to see and hear Blancmange on their home turf.

This film isn’t about out-of-touch fans crawling out of the woodwork – it’s about a tsunami of synth-heads all eager to get their story on film and help frame this pivotal era in Irish music history. You Keep Me Running Round and Round is built around the authentic opinions and honest rememberings of some fantastic characters: global banking executives, taxi drivers and jobbing musicians, all united by their passion for electronic music and adoration for Blancmange.
