PRS for Music Foundation, Arts Council England and Deezer announce Momentum artist, Woman’s Hour as the winners of the latest Momentum Deezer Award and will receive an extra £2,500 of funding

  • Attaque, Laura J Martin and Fear of Men among 9 more artists receiving Momentum funding of between £5k and £15k for recording, touring and promotion

PRS for Music Foundation, Arts Council England and Deezer, Momentum Music Fund’s official digital music partner, announce Woman’s Hour as the latest winner of the Momentum Deezer Award. The band will receive an extra £2,500 on top of their original Momentum grant.

The band, made up of siblings; Fiona Jane, William, Nick and Josh are recognisable for their enchanting new wave electropop sounds and sultry vocals from lead singer Fiona. Hailing from Cumbria and residing in London the band have earned a reputation from touring the UK with Metronomy during 2014, and their recent album release ‘Conversations’, which was warmly received from the likes of The Guardian and Daily Telegraph.

On discovering they had won the award, Woman’s Hour said:

“We're so thrilled to have won the Momentum Deezer Award and to Deezer for providing a great platform for people to enjoy our music at their own leisure. But most importantly, thanks to everyone for listening to our record. See you on the road!"

All artists who receive Momentum funding from this Arts Council supported artist development programme have the opportunity of winning the £2,500 Momentum Deezer Award on top of their grant. Woman’s Hour follow previous winners of the award, JAWS and Bear’s Den. Launched in 2013 the award encourages fans and subscribers to help their favourite acts gain streams through the Momentum Deezer app (www.deezer.com/app/momentum-music-fund), with those boasting the highest number of plays receiving the extra funding. The Momentum Deezer app gives an additional platform to Momentum funded artists, making their music available to five million subscribers on and offline.

James Foley, Local Editor of Deezer UK & Ireland, who is an advocate for exciting new talent, said:

“We’re thrilled to hand over the Momentum Deezer Award to Woman’s Hour. Deezer. Arts Council England and PRS for Music Foundation has continued to support up and coming talent and Deezer will carry on working towards providing a strong platform for the artists through new digital opportunities. Our work towards championing up and coming talent has been supported through the Momentum Deezer App which has been a brilliant way to help new artists connect with their fans and expose them to a bigger audience.”
