Proper Distribution Completes Label Deal Spree
12 December 2014 - Press release- Signs house music legend Joe Claussell’s Sacred Rhythm Music label
- Also agrees deal with Mercury-nominated jazz-rock band Roller Trio’s own label, Lamplight Social Records
- Other new signings include UK label Aztec Records, US-founded Dissention Records and Norwegian label Propeller Recordings
As part of a spate of recent distribution deals, Proper Distribution has signed Sacred Rhythm Music – a label of Joe Claussell, one of the house community’s leading lights and famed for playing at NYC’s legendary Body & Soul Club.
The agreement covers physical distribution in the UK and Eire, and worldwide (excl USA and Japan) digital distribution. Alongside his reputation as a DJ, producer and remixer, Claussell also heads the labels Spiritual Life Music and Ibadan. This year has seen him perform across the world with events in New York, London and Japan still to come.
Proper has also agreed a UK/Ireland physical and digital distribution deal with avant jazz-rock band Roller Trio’s own label, Lamplight Social Records. This covers the band’s much-anticipated second album, Fracture (released last week), which follows on from their Mercury Prize and MOBO award nominated 2012 debut. It also includes other releases on the label such as saxophonist James Mainwarning’s Tipping Point project.
In addition, Proper welcomes Norwegian label Propeller Recordings and British pop/electronic indie Aztec Records for physical distribution in UK and Ireland. Forthcoming releases from Propeller include Norwegian Grammy winners Team Me’s Blind As Night, which is due early next year. Meanwhile Proper is handling the recent debut album, France, from Parisian artist and Aztec Records act Owlle.
Other new label signings include Dissention Records for physical and digital distribution in the UK and Ireland. This sees Proper delivering the debut album Define from London rock trio RedRacer, which just arrived on CD (vinyl due Spring 2015), following an earlier digital release. Define was recorded at the legendary Rancho De La Luna, Joshua Tree, which has been the recording home of the most influential desert rock bands over the last two decades. RedRacer cut the record with wildcard firebrand and leader of Eagles of Death Metal - Jesse Hughes. The band’s first single ‘Put It Out’ soundtracked the Made in Movember 2014 TV ad campaign.
This is alongside a worldwide physical/digital deal with Ear to the Ground Records for the catalogue of folk artist Lisa Knapp, now signed to Navigator Records. This covers her debut album Wild And Undaunted which won MOJO Folk Album of the Year in 2007.
Drew Hill, MD of Proper, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the quality of these new signings, both in terms of the labels and the artists they represent, which see Proper spreading its wings across a variety of leading genres.”
