On May 18th at the Sallis Benney Theatre, the third edition of Music Cities Convention will return to Brighton, where the inaugural event occurred.  The Convention brings together the top minds from municipalities, regions, academics, consultants and the music industry to discuss, debate and introduce new thinking, action and structure to develop more vibrant, global cities. From venue and community space development to education, employment, event provision, licensing, regulation and demographics, city tourism, soft power and brand development, music industries impact a number of issues prevalent in city planning, strategy, regulatory and legislative aspects.

2015 saw the first and second sold out instalments of Music Cities Convention. The first event in Brighton saw 120 attendees from 20 countries and 50 cities, while the inaugural US edition exceeded this with 170 attendees from 60 cities, generating over $170,000 USD direct economic impact. In this third edition we will host 28 speakers from 20 different cities, which makes it the world’s largest and most extensive conference focused on exploring the relationship between city planning, strategy, development, policy and the music industry.

The final confirmations include Katell Martin (Creative and Cultural Industries of the city of Angers, France), Tatjana Kaube (Creative Director at the Office of the Mayor of Berlin), James Drury (Editor, Londonist), Olga Polishuk (Executive Director at Strelka Institute, Moscow), and Sigurður Björn Blöndal (Council Leader, Reykjavik), among others. These additions close the list of speakers that features Carlos Chirinos from NYU Steinhardt, Jocelyn Kane (Executive Director of the San Francisco Entertainment Commission), Mirik Milan (Night Mayor of the City of Amsterdam), and Charles Landry (author of ‘The Creative City).
