MTV ‘CRASHES’ DERRY-LONDONDERRY’S EBRINGTON SQUARE

Live Music event to air across MTV’s network of music channels

MTV has announced plans to ‘crash’ Derry’s Ebrington Square and stage this year’s second MTV Crashes live music event in late September.

MTV Crashes Derry - Londonderry will be staged in collaboration with Derry City Council in front of 10,000 people.  Thousands of tickets for the event, which will feature a selection of stand-out performances, will be released on August 9.

Across the weekend of September 19-21, Ebrington Square will also play host to a number of other related events which will include Club MTV DJs performing live sets and a local concert event run and promoted by Derry City Council.

Coverage of MTV Crashes Derry - Londonderry will be broadcast across MTV’s flagship UK music TV channels, MTV MUSIC and MTV LIVE HD and subsequently across its portfolio of European music channels in October.

Kerry Taylor, Senior Vice President, General Manager, MTV UK comments: “With one Crashes event already under our belt, we are delighted to be announcing details of our second.  Londonderry is a fantastic city - steeped in history and named as 2013’s City of Culture, so we can’t wait to crash it! We look forward to working with local partners on the ground to stage a live music event that Derry won’t forget!”

Mayor Cllr Brenda Stevenson said confirmation of the partnership with MTV for a live music event in the city was a huge coup for the city and a key element of the Council’s legacy promise for Music City 2014.  She commented: “It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our city to a national and international audience. With a full weekend of activity, there will be music to suit all age groups. Today we are announcing details of the MTV music event which will be attractive to our young people in the city and wider region to experience one of the biggest music parties of the year.”

Philip Flynn, Chair of Ilex said: “We are delighted to work with MTV, Derry City Council and NITB to bring yet another high profile event to the city, building on the success of Ebrington Square”.

MTV UK has a history of partnering with local authorities to stage major live music events, attracting youth audiences to different cities across the globe.

MTV Crashes Derry – Londonderry will follow the MTV Crashes Plymouth event which took place last week (July 15) in front of a crowd of 20,000. Previous Crashes destinations also include Glasgow, Belfast and Manchester.

MTV Crashes will be a key part of a wider weekend of activity in the city including Culturetech, Culture Night, free music academy workshops, hosted by MTV, offering unique insights into careers in the media and much more. Further information is available via www.visitderry.com.

Confirmation of the MTV Crashes Derry - Londonderry event date, performances and workshop details will follow shortly. Tickets for the weekend will be available online and via local box offices.
