Over 5,000 music fans applied to attend the Awards party

After a tightly contested battle, Little Simz has emerged as the winner of this year’s DICE Live Award.

Simz was crowned best emerging live act from the UK & Ireland during a night of celebrations, booze and live music at Hackney’s Moth Club last night (Thursday 19th November).

Described by Kendrick Lamar as “the illest”, Little Simz is the most exciting artist to come out of UK hip hop in the last few years. After finally dropping her much anticipated debut album A Curious Tale of Trials and Persons, the quick witted London rapper went on to sell out a date at O2’s Islington Academy and steal the show on Later… with Jools Holland. Now heading out on a huge worldwide tour, she’s well and truly owned 2015.

This year’s shortlist also included the unrelenting Girl Band, indie sweethearts The Big Moon and soul-pop hero Jack Garratt. Nominees were voted for by a panel of 100 journalists, promoters, broadcasters, and venues around the UK.

Doing away with the boring silver service of a traditional awards ceremony, the DICE Live Award featured performances from The Big Moon and Little Simz. The venue was packed out with 300 lucky fans who’d been picked from over 5,000 to win tickets.

Russ Tannen, Head of Music at DICE, said: “We had an incredible shortlist but Little Simz has smashed it this year so we’re stoked that she’s come out on top tonight. Last year’s winners, Wolf Alice, went on to score a number two album and Mercury Nomination. The next 12 months are going to be massive for Simz.”
