IBIZA MUSIC VIDEO FESTIVAL 2013



  • Music video award winners to be announced at first music video festival in Ibiza

  • International filmmakers lead jury for music video awards

 

The Ibiza Music Video Festival is drawing closer. With a hugely impressive range and quality of submissions, the upcoming event at Hotel Garbi, Ibiza, promises to be a fantastic event. 

Music video filmmakers and producers have submitted their work for the awards and have been considered by a jury of leading international filmmakers and creatives including:

  • Andy Gulliman- Broadcast Director for the Saatchi & Saatchi group of companies and behind multi-award winning campaigns such as Levi’s ‘Twist’ and X-box launch films ‘Mosquitto’ and ‘Champagne.’

  • Ben Sullivan – producer of TV commercials and music videos and Grammy award winner for the Best Music Video as produced of Rhianna’s ‘We Found Love’;

  • Lisa Gunning – film editor who made her directing debut with the promo for Goldfrapp’s ‘Drew’, the first of five series of films to accompany the ‘Tales of Us’ album;

  • Nik Powell – Director of the internationally renowned National Film and Television School which produces many of the world’s leading filmmakers and formerly behind setting up some of the most progressive British film production companies such as Palace Pictures and Scala Films, and Virgin Records with Richard Branson;

  • Ron Weisner – The legendary music producer who has worked with Michael Jackson, The Jacksons, Quincy Jones, Madonna, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Gladys Knight and The Pips, and programmes including the 25th anniversary of BET, The Soul Train: The Dance Years, Michael Jackson Tribute and most recently Chaka Khan’s Legends of Fame at the Apollo Theatre.

  • Ross Anderson – A former video commissioner, now CEO of his own production company Nice & Polite, and behind the award-winning music videos by Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs and Take That, as well as many others; and

  • Tareq Kubaisi – A director at Nice Shirt Films and award-winning production company Hammer & Tongs whose creative experience encompasses films such as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Son of Rambo and music videos for Oasis, Madonna, Radiohead and Coldplay. He is also the owner of the post-production house, Raised by Wolves.

  • Alma Har’el- Alma’s documentary ‘Bombay Beach’ took the top prize at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2011, and was nominated for the 2011 Independent Spirit “Truer than Fiction” award. She has also worked with the likes of Jack Penate and Fanfarlo on their music videos.

  • Ashley Pugh- Ashley’s team at The Bigfoot Project have been responsible for over two hundred music videos, commercials, and TV documentaries. Ashley was won the best producer CAD award in 2004 for his production work ,and picked up a number of IVCA awards for productions on spots for Chrysler, British Airways and short film "Going Over."

  • Jacques Steyne- Steyne has produced award winning feature films, documentaries and commercials. He won the German “Oscar” (Deustsche Filmpreis) for his photography on the feature film “Out of Order,” and has worked on several music videos in Germany and France, notably Prince’s “America.”

  • Jay Smith- Jay is a Music Editor for MTV UK. He has a strong commercial radio background as Head of Music for the Capital and Galaxy radio networks and experience of working for major and independent record companies.

  • Dennis Madden- Dennis is a director and director of photography who has worked with a number of artists including Kanye West and Hudson, Sugababes, Basement Jaxx and The Fratellis.

  • Tom Russell- Tom is a Senior Colourist at the Prime Focus Group London, and one of London's most experienced colourists. Over 25 years, Tom has graded hundreds of music videos and over 50 full length features. Tom has worked with the likes of Kanye West and Take That.

  • Tom Trigger- Deeply knowledgeable about all things short, Thom has extensive experience in production, working on everything from micro budget shorts to Harry Potter. Thom is also PR & Marketing Manager for Rushes. He has helped produce various festivals including the Rushes Soho Shorts Film Festival in 2010 and the London Short Film Festival 2010-2011.
  • Sam Hodivala- Sam is an editor at Work Post Ltd, a boutique film editing company whose recent projects include commercials for Samsung, Chevrolet Silverado, Marmite, Bose, FIFA, Carlsberg, Enterprise, Nissan, and Guinness. Sam also edited Katie Pow’s 2011 short film ‘Paper Parachutes.’

  • Anna Rhodes- Anna is an independent Production Designer who has worked with artists including Chase & Status, Rita Ora, Mumford & Sons, Professor Green, Kaiser Cheifs, Example, George Michael, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Foals.

  • Caroline Barnes- Caroline is a world-renowned make-up artist whose repertoire of celebrity clientele is extensive. She has worked with Kylie Minogue, Prince, David Beckham, Anna Friel, Diane Kruger, Duffy, Cheryl Cole, LeAnn Rimes, Natasha Beddingfield, Alexandra Burke and many more.

  • Chloe Richardson- Chloe is a London based fashion stylists who specialises in music, advertising and fashion. Her music clients include Jessie J, Kano, Roll Deep, Girls Aloud, Biffy Clyro, Professor Green, The Doves, The Saturdays, Tinchy Stryder, Ed Sheeran, and Bastille.

Rupert Bryan, co-director of the Ibiza Music Video Festival and the Awards says, “The music video industry has long produced some of the most exciting creative work both visually and technically that reaches audiences worldwide. As well as creating a valuable part of an artist’s repertoire, many music videos directors and key creatives on their crews go on to work in the commercials, documentary and feature film industries.

Ibiza will be a wonderful launch-pad for the first music video festival and the awards as it offers great production facilities and locations for making music videos as well as being renowned as the dance capital of the world. The enthusiasm and ideas for this one-day inaugural festival has been overwhelming and we are already considering building in more days for the next one.”

Elizabeth Fear, co-director adds, In addition to public screenings, we are also hosting industry-only events for music video producers and production executives which will include discussions, Q&As and the demo screenings. The festival will culminate in an awards ceremony followed by a party.”

The festival is open to emerging and established music video talent with the sole objective being to showcase the best of music video talent. Entrants are invited to go to talenthouse.com 'to upload their video, nominating themselves for a maximum of three categories ranging from best director and best production design, to best styling, colouring or VFX.

The festival is open to all music video professionals to attend, not just those who are submitting music videos for the festival or the awards. 

The industry programme includes presentations with experts such as Ross Anderson, a former video commissioner and now owner of his own production company, Nice & Polite, who will share his experience on how to win a commission as well as sessions on storyboarding and treatment writing. Attendees can also look forward to practical kit demonstrations from Manfrotto.
